The hotel is in a beautiful setting some 10 minutes outside of Vonnas. Depending on the entrance you come in overlooking a pond. On the right an old Mirage airplane will catch your eye. Behind the small castle there is another pond.|Reception was friendly but seemed a bit lost, farewell was again friendly and since it was an early departure a coffee was offered :-).|Next to the castle where there are several dining areas there are the very modern rooms. These are very spacious with a big bed (not too comfy though). Good coffee in the room, a nice bathroom and a separate toilet.|In my opinion the rooms are a bit overly modern, but probably were intended to contrast the old building.|We had a private event and the food served was good.|In summer the water of the two ponds is not inviting as it seems dead. But there is a spa in the vicinity (at cost).|Would I go back for a romantic weekend? - I am afraid not, there was a lack of atmosphere that would have made it an extraordinary stay.|Great though that there were 2 Tesla and a regular...
Read moreOn arrival at the hotel we were greeted by chaos. We waited some time before someone could assist us with the check in. Once we had our key, they escorted us to the room. Once we settled we decided we would go and have a drink at the main hotel and discuss our next days travel. There were staff buzzing around while we stood waiting for someone to attend to us. There was no bar to sit at so we were offered the two occasional chairs in the hallway entrance to the hotel. We declined. We asked instead to have the drinks delivered to the room. We were warned it would take some time. Eventually the drinks arrived and we sat on our lovely outdoor patio enjoying our drinks and nature. The room was basic. No alcohol in the mini bar. No conditioner or cotton pads/ear buds in the bathroom. |The grounds are beautiful and the main hotel is a lovely building. |This is not the Relais&châteaux standard we have come to expect. Very disappointed and wouldn’t...
Read moreAlthough this place was hard to find with Relais Chateau navigation and Trip Advisor address (hotel needs to put more signs on roads nearby) when we finally arrived we were happy with what we had. Our room was located away from the main building and felt something like an exclusive club med. The rooms are modern with a private terrace to enjoy the outside. The dinner was disappointing and the staff were a bit clumsy - somehow not providing service that we are used to in a Relais Chateau (i.e. bringing bottle of water and setting it down between us without pouring into our glasses). Not a big deal but there were many small things which made us feel that perhaps it was training or inexperience. This plus lower quality dinner makes us rate a 4. The breakfast with its homemade pastries is to-die for. In fact, my husband had a 6-course breakfast, including brioche, chocolate chip cream cheese pastry, and raspberry...
