Was a bit anxious about staying here after reading the reviews but at 27 quid for a room and next to the ferry port for a crash pad for one night we were prepared to make the best of it. Had 2 rooms with double beds, me and my ypu gest son in one and husband and oldest son next door. It wasn't THAT bad, for the price and star rating and literally to sleep for one night it was OK. Bed was basic but fine, I slept really well but i did bring my own pillow. Bathroom does remind me of a caravan but had good pressure on the shower and 2 towels. No noise disturbed me and I didn't smell any smoke or weed as previous reviews have said. Receptionist was friendly and spoke English to us when she realised we were brits even though I initially spoke to her in French. Our room was a bit cold and I didn't see any heating anywhere. Husband and sons room next door was a tad warmer but their bedside light was broken, his feet touched the metal on the bed and he said the pillow was uncomfortable. They also saw a bug on the (uncarpeted) floor.||Room is a little tired, woodchip walls with some stains on but linen on the bed was clean and fresh.||We didn't have breakfast but saw them laying it out as we left and it didn't look too bad, but there is a supermarket over the road and shops in town.||Overall I'd say it's more of a hostel vibe than motel, but nobody is going to be staying here for a week so for one night I really can't complain, ...
Read moreThis has always been a budget hotel with no restaurant and pretty basic rooms but it's situated at the entrance to the DFDS ferry port and so is ideal for an overnight stay before or after a sailing via Dover (and apparently somewhere in Ireland these days based upon signpost on the docks - don't know what ferry company it is or if it's freight or freight & passengers). Eating is either at the next door Campanile or over the road at what was Poivre Rouge but has reinvented itself post-Covid as the Loon-Garden. Sadly sans buffet at the moment. Romm quality at the hotel can be variable, especially the shower/toilet pods. Some leak water into the room from the shower, mine this time seemed to have leak depositing water on the pod floor from somewhere around the sink. There should be a breakfast room serving adequate but hardly stunning and pretty limited food options but Covid restrictions currently mean that's out of bounds and for a hot drink you have to rely upon a vending machine in reception - it was out of action during my stay but the Receptionist would make a drink from the breakfast room machine for 1€. Oh and I must add that if you chose to go for the Campanie food option you do get a 15% discount on your restaurant bill upon presentation of your Première Classe room key-card. Rooms can be a bit noisy with people coming and going for/from...
Read moreI have used this hotel on 2 occasions. The first time I arrived they had lost my booking - and although I had email and SMS proof of booking and payment; they refused to let me in. Eventually after the night porter spoke to a manager, they let me in and have a room.
The second time I stayed, they actually had my booking.. the staff spoke great English (as my school French expired the day I left school..) and all was fine. Until 2am; when someone set the fire alarm off by smoking in their room. It was December, it was cold.. and I am glad they found it funny though.. it was a jolly good jape.
Breakfast is extra.. it is cold buffet with tea/coffee/juices.. it is fine! I have no problem paying the extra for breakfast.
The rooms.. they are tired. They do need a good clean.. the bathroom is "tight" and the shower curtain clings to bits you didn't know shower curtains could find... But, for a few hours, it is acceptable. It is not somewhere I would spend a weeks vacation; but for some rest, a shower and breakfast it it acceptable.
3 stars, because of a lost booking and...
