Restaurant Loon Garden — Restaurant in Dunkirk

Quite an awkward review to write here, they definitely weren't on form this evening. Restaurant wasn't very busy only a few tables were taken. The staff were. Very friendly and helpful and the food was generally nice, HOWEVER. When the drinks were brought out 2 cola bottles dropped and smashed... Not an issue really as accidents happen. There was a lot of glass on the floor though, they came to clear it up quite quickly but missed bits. We ordered our food and the children's fish came out uncooked in the centre, so we sent it back only for the second one to be very cold in the centre but cooked ok on the outside, so we had to send it back again. 3rd one came out fine though. When they came to clear our plates away, they also dropped the plates covering my leg in Tomato sauce- luckily I was wearing shorts. We also had to wait 45 mins after finishing our meals before we seen any server to request the bill, so we were left for quite some time. All in all, it was a mixed experience. But the staff were lovely and friendly and the food - when cooked - was generally very nice and competitively priced in comparison to some we eat in that week. The samosas were nice, but in a weird fortune cookie tasting pastry, and served with BBQ sauce, with I thought was a little strange for an "Indian" starter. We were staying at the hotel opposite this restaurant but didn't fancy eating in the hotel as menu was very limited, so we ventured across the road. Soo glad we did! Good choice and reasonably priced considering the high quality food. We all had burgers, chicken and beef amoung us, all really tasty, asked us how we wanted it cooking too, rare, med or well done, so not just a burger! Good portions. Good choice of side dishes you could have, chips, roast potatoes, haricot vert, salad. Service was very friendly and happy to explain the menu, although you could scan a QR code and get the menu in English anyway! ( didn't see that till we'd eaten however!) Nice booths for some tables. Gorgeous puddings. Will return if in the area. Only gave the atmosphere a 4 as it was quite quiet, for a Saturday, we like it like that though! Probably the area it was in, not much else about. Excellent steak, very reasonable prices, the green salad was also very nice as was the complementary bread that came with the meal and local butter. The staff were very helpful and were able to accommodate my bike jacket and helmet while I ate. Parking was secure and I was able to sit at a table which overlooks my bike. The proximity to the ferry port is also great at just 2 minutes away, and as there is no food available there this is the best choice nearby. Would definitely recommend and will go again. 5...
