We visited 4 campings (with similar prices) in France in 2 weeks and this was definitely our least favourite. On arrival we got a map of the campsite with the number of our spot. On the map there was a road drawn that wasn't there in real life. We had to do two rounds before finding out our place was in the middle of a big field (there was a nr on the tree in the middle of it). There were a lot of other places on this big field without any clear borders so we had little privacy and people that arrived later planted their tents close to us.
On the website it said that it's close to a medieval village which in reality isn't that spectacular that I'd advertise with it. What was truly medieval however were the sanitary facilities. You could choose between "turkish" toilets (a hole in the floor) or toilets without a seat. For some of the showers you had to keep pulling on a chain. Furthermore it was all just very dirty. Mold on the ceilings, spiderwebs everywhere and dirt in the corners (which clearly accumulated over a longer time). I asked if they had a washing machine but they replied it was very old. I couldn't find it anyway (there's an icon on the side of the earlier mentioned map with the title washing machine but it's not on the map itself).
Most of the guests seemed young people that are into climbing (which you can do closeby) and are maybe happy with very little (they seemed to have a nice time with each other). Hence maybe the 4 stars. It's not too expensive but to be honoust I've seen plenty camping municipals (this isn't a municipal btw) that have much better facilities than this place.
We stopped here for one night crossing France. It seems that a lot of people do the same or come for the climbing or Paris so I think they have a lot of clientele and maybe don't care. But come on have some (self) respect and put in the effort.
The reason I'm giving two stars and not one is because the girl at the front desk was very friendly and the camping is located next to a beautiful river.
Will never come back and advise people against...
Read moreThis review is not about the camping, but about the reception and crash pad rental. Do not rent a crash pad here. They sent us on our way with a crash pad that was torn apart in two directions on the inside. The foam was coming out, the clip was broken. They did not tell us about the damage and we paid for a 4 day rental.
We came back to report the damage, and they said they already knew about the damage and asked us to come the next morning for a replacement. The next morning, they did not have a replacement pad available. I explained my discontent, and requested a refund, which they seemed to agree with, but could not refund on the spot. They asked me to contact them by e-mail and explain the situation. So I did, and they promptly rejected. They are also claiming that they have informed me, that the crash pads are checked for damage, that it's my loss because we used the pad for lack of a better option. I'd been driving to the camping and back 5 times in 4 days.
To be honest, I do not care about the money, I just find their attitude appalling. They even admit several other pads are in broken condition (quote from e-mail, "some of their crash pads are badly damaged"). They are making money from this but not maintaining or replacing their equipment, and spinning the blame on...
Read moreNestled in the woods near the world-class climbing spot (Fontainebleau) is known as Camping Les Prés.
The community here has a cool, calm welcoming vibe thanks to the chilled-out climbers that flock to Les Prés. You'll find big camping plots under tree coverage, providing shade and privacy without sacrificing that camping comradery when you want it.
The facilities are clean and modern, a nice reprieve after scaling big boulders all day. But the real MVP is the burrito food truck parked semi-permanently on site. Their huge, flavor-packed burritos are just what you need after working up an appetite on the rock face, and are an absolute steal for the size and price.
The staff keeps the place running smoothly and are happy to provide recommendations for climbing routes or other adventurous things to do in the ruggedly beautiful surroundings. The communal freezer to ice is a great bonus.
Whether you're a seasoned climbing junkie or a newbie looking to learn the ropes (its bouldering) , you'll feel right at home among the chill community at Camping Les Prés. The laidback atmosphere, proximity to climbing, and thoughtful amenities like the food truck and freezer make it the perfect basecamp for climbers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. I'll...
