It's not every day one gets to stay in a french king's hunting lodge..|Chateau de Rouilon is the wonderful 16th century home of the most charming and kind of hosts Piere and Henri.. |An easy hour away from Paris and less than 20 driving minutes from the incredibile |Chateau du Fontainebleau and the even more incredibile |Chateau Vaux le Vicomte, |it sits overlooking France's main river Seine.|History has it as a hunting lodge for the "Good King", Henry the 4th of France and then as a home for one of his favourite mistresses Gabrielle d'Estrées. ||Bought by Piere's great, great grandfather in 1877,|Charles Grangé spent much of his fortune restoring the place .. |Inherited from his father in 2018, and as luck had it for us, it is now also a unique Bed & Breakfast.|Inheriting a Chateau might sound amazing but it does come with lots of Responsability.|Piere told me |" You only live once in this lifetime, so we try ." ❤ |The whole place invited me in;|the wrought iron main gate; the lush, green garden; |the glass door giving a peak into the beautiful enterance hall;|Even the quirky old stairs guided me up to a bright and spacious bedroom, with beautiful views.|The bedroom door opened on it's own to encourage me further in! Read morePeggy could not have been more helpful, making a tentative restaurant reservation in good time for us to sit outside on a summer's evening. Sadly she had flu just before we arrived and her husband had double-booked the 1st floor Louis XV suite we had reserved months before, which was disappointing. I thought I was being kind giving my friend the 2nd floor room facing the beautiful back garden, while I took the smaller room overlooking the Seine and quite a busy lane in this commuter belt village. Unfortunately a commuter train runs behind the garden and her matress was very firm, so she hardly slept, while I slept like a log. Breakfast was simple but pleasant and Peggy could not have been more charming and welcoming. The decor is eclectic and rather amusing. Dogs are allowed in the garden but must sleep in the car. Bathrooms spacious and well stocked. Our hand showers worked, but sprayed leakages everywhere, so remember that this is a b&b, not a...
Read moreA small quaint chateau, stooped in history offers accommodation beside the Seine River. The hosts are very accommodating and friendly. In our case, we got an early basic breakfast (7.00am) which was very nice of them . The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean, however they are getting a little tired. The only real gripe I had, was that a kettle in the room with tea and coffee would be great. Also, a word of advice, we had 20kilogram suitcases which are so hard to get up two flights of stairs. It would be advisable to take a pack with your clothes and personal items ; this would solve the problem. On the whole we really enjoyed our stay...
