Koawa shame on you. Having enjoyed some great holidays at Rochetaille as a family since 2015 I returned with my eldest daughter to watch the Tour de France with her before she goes off to university. On arrival I went to check in at the château to find it shut down and then directed by a female staff member to the bar to check in. The bar staff then said they could not deal with booking me in. They made a call only for the same female staff member to arrive ten minutes later to check me in and direct me to pitch 60. On arrival it was overgrown with weeds. A male then turned up some minutes later with a can of fly spray and proceeded to spray the weeds with it? I complained about the pitch only to be told they had no pitches spare when they did. Eventually we were given another pitch which was better then the first. I felt compelled to then clean the storage unit and fridge you get with a premium pitch such was the state of both. The showers would have been great if you could stand under them due to the heat! I love a shower but they were ridiculous! The grounds were generally unkept and the stage once used by the children had been removed and was in a state of disrepair. The badminton courts were taken out of use to place more tents in them something I have never seen before! This was once a great place to visit where the staff were identified by the les castels polo shirts and the chateau as the focal point of the site where you could store your bikes and obtain information about the area. This was a far stretch from being greeted with a welcome pack from Les Castels. The whole experience was very disappointing after a long drive from Yorkshire. What should have been a great few days away was spoiled by the condition of the site. I suppose this is what happens when a bigger company takes over and takes the love out of the place. I am sad to say I will not be returning again to what was once a wonderful place to stay! Extremely disappointed and I am not one for writing reviews but on this occasion I felt...
Read moreWell where do we start. This was our 3rd visit to this site (which was our favourite site for anywhere we go) to watch the Tour de France but our first visit since the site was take over by koawa. | All I can say is if you are expecting the same friendly welcome, clean tidy well maintained site, lovely manicured pitches as before then stay clear. The main chateau reception is now closed so you have to check in at the bar area. The general look of the camp was very messy. Pitches hadn’t been mowed some clearly for weeks, hedges were over grown and looking untidy between the pitches and those that had been cut they had just left the clippings to die on the floor rather than clear them up. We saw one couple in one pitch in their motor home and how they hadn’t just left the site with the pitch they were given amazed me. It looked like they were in some baron overgrown wasteland somewhere with the state of the pitch.. All these points completely puzzle me when this was clearly their biggest week of the season with the tour been on. The site should of been immaculate that week. When you pay a lot of money you expect a clean and tidy site. It’s basically been looked after by young people who clearly don’t know what people expect or how to deliver it.| The showers are completely rubbish and turn off after a few seconds and most of the shower heads are broken so trying to get a proper shower is like mission impossible. | The food selection is now pretty much non existent. We did have a pizza on our first night but this was our first and last as it was pretty poor to say the least. | They now also accept large groups of children on community camps so there is a lot of noise etc in the evenings as they do activities. | Such a shame the previous owners sold up and koawa took over. They need to have a long hard look at how they are running this site as I think they are going to completely loose any regular users of this site for basic things which could easily be resolved. | SORT IT OUT...
Read moreUpdate - After coming across many more positive reviews over the summer and not being ready to leave France, combined with a 50% discount offer on mobile homes, we decided to return and give it another chance due to its previous reputation. We booked a mobile home for a week at the end of July 2023 and arrived from another campsite at the base of Alpe D'Huez. Honestly, it's much better this year. The caretaker now has her husband alongside her, and their efforts to make guests happier and restore the campsite to its former condition are truly admirable. There are still numerous issues, including worn-down equipment, buildings, and the swimming pool area. However, based solely on their efforts, the caretaker and her husband would receive a perfect 5/5 rating from me. I sincerely hope they succeed in bringing the site back to its former glory; it unquestionably requires hard work and significant investment from the owners (Koawa Corporation, which owns several campsites). If they do succeed, I will be the first to make a reservation.
Stayed in July 2022 Sad sad condition of a once great camping site. The camp sit is really in a bad state, weeds all over, do not look kept, or maintained anymore. We were here latest in 2019 on a pitch and it was great! Now the staff is uninterested in servicing the guests, we booked the brand new mobile home with spa, but dishwasher is not working, nor are some of the lights. We asked them to change a lightbulb, but here on day 6/7, they still havent done so! Zero sevice. I am not one to write reviews, but felt compelled to do so. We will return to the area, but will move to the RCN camp site...
