First the positives: The location is perfect. Local bakery is a 30 second walk. Both ski escalators are just minutes away. The price is also good, the staff was trying to be helpful (only one could speak English so that's the "trying" part but they were lovely anyway...) There was coffee machine, kettle, microwave, stove top, dishwasher, hair dryer, plenty of cutlery (although the cutting knife was so dull you couldn't even cut a carrot with it). We've got our own locker for our ski equipment.
And now the cons: The apartment was advertised for 6... Well... Two of the six had to sleep on an extendable couch... So it's basically a 4 person apartment. 6 of us could barely move in the apartment. It is just simply not fit for that many person. It was cramped, the dining table could only gave space for 5 at one time, the doors are bashing into each other.
Bedsheets are NOT included... I've been to extremely cheap and shitty places but never have I ever seen this kind of cheapishness... Bedsheets are essential even in eastern European very cheap countries. Instead normal bedsheets you're given a disposable extremely thin plastic sheet called "bed and pillow protector". I wouldn't even put that down for my dog to lay on.
The room was filthy when we entered it, the balcony table was dirty, the floor was dirty, some dishes were not properly washed away... Because the room is NOT being cleaned by a deticated employee. The previous guests cleaned it and when you check out you also have to clean the whole place up.(cleaning supplies included) Bevare... the cleanliness of the apartment you get is not getting checked throughly and you can and will find the previous guests filth.
There's a hungarian word which describes this place well: "Spúr". Which means being pitifully cheapish, which describes this place well. Our stay would have been much more pleasant if not for the laughingly spúr solutions this place has. This place has so much potential it's sad that spúrness is...
Read moreI’ve always been a bit cautious about booking apartments for skiing through companies, but I was pleasantly surprised when we eventually got into the apartment. Checking in was a bit of a faff, everyone trying to get in at the same time, but once we got the keys we were please to find our apartment on the ground floor at the rear which meant we could get the car within 10m to unload. If your elsewhere in the blocks unloading may be more of a hassle, lifts were very busy with all the new arrivals. To be fair I did book an apartment for 7 people when there was only going to be 5 of us, being 50+ I have decided that I have reached an age when sofa beds won’t do and none of my kids wanted to share a double bed with me! Apartment was a good size and adequately furnished, bathroom/toilet, separate wc and shower. Wasn’t impressed about being asked to fill out my own inventory though, last thing I wanted to do on arrival, so I didn’t! There is plenty of car parking as well, but it is not as it may seem on the Oz website. We parked in a car park which was free, but what we didn’t realise is that you can only park from 9am to midnight, we had a note left on the car stating that it had to be moved or we would get a fine! Free parking is a bit of a trot!||||Alpe D’Huez overall has plenty of skiing, but wasn’t impressed with OZ, 2 cable cars out and really only one run back into the town from AH, which got very busy and overall the resort was very quiet, so probably OK for families...
Read moreIt is cheap and it is really close to the ski slopes. This is all the positive stuff about it. ||||The dorms are ridiculously small. The 6 person dorm is not fitted for more than 4 people. The kitchen equippment is crap, the stove is a joke, it heats up so slowly, and sometimes it cannot get hot enough to boil a pot of water. The dishwasher sometimes randomly stops and you have to manually mess with the buttons to make it continue. The water is either 90 or 5 degrees C. The staff is generally unfriendly. Nobody speaks German or Italian. Their English is really poor and they really do not like to speak English which can lead to misunderstandings even if you talk perfectly clear and understandable. But they are really rude, dumb and obnoxious when you leave your room. They come to check if it is clean and they mess with you for absoulutely miniscule things like barely noticable stains on the window or one of the pots being still a little wet. Be really precise when cleaning because if there are some hairs or some dust on the floor they charge a cleaning fee then they do not actually clean the room because when we moved in the floor was quite messy and dusty.||||I cannot really recommend it because it is quite a trashy place, but it is cheap and right next to...
