Hôtel la Randonnée — Hotel in Mende

Like many, we discovered we were staying at this location of the Bastide hotels when arriving at the wrong location. Vanessa was very helpful and happy to sort us out after a very long day of walking. This location is slightly outside of town, surrounded by lovely rolling fields which made for a quiet night's sleep. Beds were okay - a bit more lumpy than we like. The room was huge. Like others, we walked into town for our demi-pension dinner. The walk was completely doable (and you needed it on the way home to digest your bottomless aligot). Breakfast was on site, and simple. Staff at this hotel were enthusiastic and friendly. We are still talking about how hard everyone works at the hotel...

We were not happy to discover that the hotel is a detour from the Chemin St Jacques. The room was comfortable and had a very welcome bath, but we were woken at night by the dogs in the run outside our window. This hotel seems to be part of a group.There is no restaurant on site which meant that we had to retrace our steps into the town to eat at a restaurant associated with the hotel. Breakfast was fortunately provided...

We were surprised by a few things as we had booked through email. We ate in the village but our sleeping rooms were a way out, as can be seen on the map. The staff were excellent and very helpful. However, the price we were charged for half board was 157.60 euros. As we were walking, and paid by card, it was about double what we had seen and expected and impossible to argue with as we did not...
