Hotel Chateau de Creissels, in Creissels, France (near Millau):|We stayed here May 20-24, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. Creissels is a small town just south of much-larger Millau. We picked this area to begin with as we wanted to explore some of the nearby gorges and caves, and wanted especially to drive across the Millau Viaduct, currently the world’s tallest bridge. You cannot get to the Viaduct from Creissels and have to drive through the town of Millau to get to the A75 in order to drive over it. We did that, but found that views of the bridge from under it were especially impressive, and that is easily done from Creissels by driving west towards the village of Peyre.||Despite it not being the most convenient to our plans, we decided to base our stay in Creissels, because who doesn’t want to stay in a lovely and authentic chateau? Creissels is a small place and the chateau is perched on an outcropping of rock above the village. It is not easily seen from the road below, but the chateau is reached by a back lane and has its own parking area in the leafy parkland that the chateau faces. It was absolutely gorgeous “up there” with gardens, lawn furniture, and even a small pool with a distant view of the viaduct. ||The overall interior of the hotel was what you’d expect for a real chateau: comfortable, lived-in, creaky-floored, stone-walled, antique. As with many historic buildings converted to hotels, few rooms are the same. Those in the back face north with rooftop views. Those in front face south, with views mostly of the park/gardens. We were lucky to get one of those rooms, a spacious 2nd floor Jr. Suite (room #9) with views from 3 different windows! It seemed newer too, with light-colored walls: brighter and airier than most of the public rooms. We thought it was perfect!||The bathroom was an OK size, with the toilet is a separate room so small your knees could touch the closed door. But the bathroom had what was needed, plus a nice window for air. The person who outfitted it with fixtures did not do a good job, however. The rain showerhead was greatly oversized for the space it was in and could not help but splash water everywhere. The sink faucet jutted out way past the drain so that turning it on simply caused the water to splash outside the bowl.||The breakfast room was attractive, with attentive staff and a fine selection. A board advertised that most products we were enjoying came from local producers. The town of Creissels is very short on places to eat, though it seemed a few would be opening in July when the crowds arrived.|The Chateau has its own restaurant and we ate there one night. As vegetarians, we were very pleased that their menu had a meat-free option. It was, however, a fine-dining experience, and not inexpensive. It’s the type of meal that began with an “amuse-bouche” and included a mid-meal “palate refresher.” We don’t usually eat that fancy, but what we had was delicious. |The service was excellent and the setting is romantic and elegant. ||We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful, though not all spoke English. There is ample parking in the park that fronts the hotel, but beware the narrow gate if you drive a car too wide!|Overall, we loved our stay here. It was a beautiful and welcoming place to return to each day after an excursion. If your travels find you in this area, Hotel Chateau de Creissels is well-worth...
Read moreIts a beautiful building in a lovely location with a fabulous vaulted restaurent in what was originally the cellar. The pool looked wonderful but the weather was against us so we didnt use it. Fantastic views to Millau Bridge. I'd recommend staying in the 'ancient' rooms rather than the newer ones. We were originally shown a contemporary room with terrace but they're a bit dark and characterless which was at odds with the building and why you'd want to stay there. We asked for an alternative and were immediately offered (at no extra charge) one of the ancient rooms which was just lovely. Bigger, brighter with lovely views and a huge bed. Dinner was delicious and, if your dog is well behaved, they're OK with you bringing them. One of the highlights was walking through the back of the carpark and immediately out to the most beautiful walk up through the hills, waterfalls and to a hilltop with fabulous views over the bridge and town. Breathtaking! It's very much a hotel rather than the other chateaus we stayed in which were still owned by the original families. So it had a hotel feel rather than the intimacy. But we very much...
Read moreWe have stayed at this hotel a few times over the years, which says a lot. The problems with the A75 is that there are few hotels on that route that we know about that really give us such pleasure. Outside the medieval chateau is severe but commands an unrivalled view of Millau, Creissels, river Tarn, les Causses and of course, the bridge. If possible have a room overlooking this extraordinary vista. The room we had this time was extremely comfortable and for the first time we had a dog, which was welcomed both in the hotel and under the table in the restaurant; an attitude difficult to find in the UK. The restaurant surpassed all expectations. In the past we have found it patchy but the food was beautifully prepared, presented and full of flavours. Our only small criticism is the breakfast room is cramped, a bit dull and one sometimes feels it is bit of an anticlimax, instead of being the cherry on the cake. However, our overall experience is a good one and shall not let that flaw our...
