Currently enjoying a couple of weeks at Camping Mas De Rey nestled amongst the vineyards near Uzés in the Gard area on the edge of the Cevennes. Very quiet family orientated site with no on site entertainment (which we prefer). The site is split into 2 areas - a lower area with standard size pitches and an upper woodland area very large pitches each with its own picnic table and benches (where we are) - each area has its swimming pool. There is a multi sports field separating the two, suitable for ball games etc. There is also a tree ropes course very popular with kids. Washing/toilet facilities are spotless (and has toilet paper, although no loo seats) plenty of showers too. There are also facilities for laundry and freezing ice blocks. We rented a refrigerator (which is ideal in the hot weather we have been experiencing!) Food wise - Bread/pastries can be ordered from reception up to 7pm the day before and they serve pizza, chips and a plat du jour (which also need to be pre-ordered.) Good mix of nationalities. Loads of walks/cycle routes from the campsite and lots to do in the area - Pont du Gard (great for an afternoon picnic and swim) - 15 mins, Haribo museum (big hit with young kids!) - 10 mins, wild swimming/cliff jumping in the Céze river Cascades de Saudet (very popular with teenagers) (40 mins) and a fascinating 1900's museum literally just down the road from the campsite. Also very central for day trips - Mediterranean coast and Camargue (1hr), Ardeche (45 mins) Orange Roman Amphitheatre (beautiful and a must see) (50 mins)...
Read moreThis was our second visit to this very quiet pleasant wooded campsite about 2 ½ miles from Uzès which is really two sites in one. The first site you come to near reception is for all types of tourers including tents; the further site is for tents only – both sites have their own facilities including a swimming pool each.||We stayed on the first site in a caravan. Pitches are a good size, delineated and fairly level. There are two sanitary blocks but we used the one near to reception. Toilet paper is provided and also soap to wash your hands – which a lot of French sites don’t provide.||There are several very nice looking chalets dotted around the site, a children’s play area and the swimming pool with a lot of loungers and nice seating in the bar area. Bread can be ordered daily and both the lady who owns the campsite and her son, François are very personable, helpful and friendly. ||Between the two sites are a sports field, table tennis table, small zip wire and tree ropewalk. We looked at the tent only site and it has been designed to have a nature-feel about it.||You can walk to Arpaillargues from the back of the site in about 15-20 minutes and we ate at the Café de l’Univers. At midday the menu is a choice of two meals but every time we ate there the food...
Read moreSo we came to Camping mas de Rey Nature tired from our travels and basically at night. But we were greeted so friendly in the most fluent english (they also speak dutch, german and of course french!), asked our sanitary passes and driven to our spot right in front of a clean, well maintained shower- bathroom- and laundry complex. The place was rather large and in the green, quiet and perfectly flat for our tent. Each spot has its own table and benches as well as trees for our hammock we very much enjoyed. The next day we rented bikes for almost nothing and went on a tour to Pont Du Guard and Uzés- just so beautiful. We came back to jump in one of the two pools and just continued to live happily, getting fresh baguette and croissants in the morning from the reception for the next couple days. There also seems to be a sweet restaurant. We enjoyed our time a bit too much as we then were about to miss our bus. When we asked the reception to call a taxi for us, the lady we now call our angel just went and took us in her car. So to summ up: they are the...
