Having recently stayed at two excellent Brit Hotels in St Malo and Fougeres we thought we would try this hotel as an overnight stop on our way from London to the Dordogne. Our sat nav found the hotel ,without this it would have been very hard and first impressions were not great with unkempt flower beds and dirty carpets to the entrance foyer. We had booked using the Brit Hotel website which offered us a special price for dinner bed and breakfast. On arrival we were told this was NOt available to us as we were not on business! ||We had requested a room that was suitable for a guest In a wheelchair and the room we were allocated may have been such a room although it's location on the first floor would have made an emergency evacuation difficult.||The room was tired , carpet had holes in places, and the bedside lights did not work. With some trepidation we took dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. The waitress was charming and the menu and food were really very acceptable as was breakfast. ||When we came to check-out the card payment machine would not accept any of the 5 cards that we offered and we had to walk into town to withdraw cash from the bank. St Jean de Braye seems an interesting place with really excellent public gardens and planting but I fear we shall not stay here again.||Come on Brit. Hotels and give this place a much needed refresh to brng it up to your new...

Read moreIf you are looking for a very reasonably priced bed for the night in this area, you could do a lot worse than the Brit Hotel. Decor is a bit functional, but did not appear tired in the main. Room size was adequate but not large, and it has a restaurant which unfortunately does not function in the evening at weekends when we were there - we were directed to another restaurant which we had to drive to as it was about 2km away.||||Niggles were that there was no walk in shower - just a shower over the bath, and you had to be quite inventive to make it work - one of our party in a separate room failed completely! Bedclothes were flimsy with just a sheet and a thin blanket. There was a separate very heavy duvet which you could use if you were too cold, but this was going from one extreme to the other. The wireless internet in our room generally did not work and just about drove me to distraction!||||There was a car park with plenty of car parking space. Location is rather out of town so you will need a car. To summarise, despite the issues mentioned above this is quite a bargain by French standards, and not grotty as you might expect for the price. I would probably visit again if I was prepared to forgo the internet...
