If you’re looking for a 5 star stay with restaurants, spa and room service, don’t stay here. If you are looking to stay in an extraordinary Chateau which has been lovingly renovated over the last 28 years by the owners into an idiosyncratic but glorious historical estate, this place is perfection. ||When you arrive, the reception is a lady sitting at the main gate who rings the owners who come to greet you. We stayed in the tower which was first constructed in stone in the 12th century (in wood prior). Our room was huge with two vast stone fireplaces and two bathrooms, the windows in one of which were stone slits for the medieval archers. There are bedrooms in the main house which is an absolutely stunning building, part restored. ||The estate is spectacular. They’re rebuilding a huge Pigeonnier and there’s a lovely orangery garden. You can borrow bikes to cycle in the estate. Very dog friendly. ||Breakfast is simple but delicious in two rooms on the first floor of the tower. ||You can have dinner in the Red Hat restaurant which is 100m away. Book a table in advance if you want to sit on their sweet terrace. Also has its idiosyncrasies but we had a v good meal. ||The owners are absolutely charming and perfect hosts. ||It was one of our favourite places to...
Read morePassionate about period residences, we chose this castle for a two-day stay. Upon arrival, however, we were told that for us there was no place inside the castle, and they accompanied us to a building annexed to the property. If they had informed us at the time of booking, we would have looked for another accommodation. So, instead, by giving up the stay we would have also lost all the money. It must be said that on the weekend and in a pleasant resort thousands of kilometres from home, with children in tow, we had no choice but to accept or obtorto collo. Thus, we were assigned a large room, in which hygiene and cleanliness were decidedly scarce. No service, the room was not made up, no TV or other amenities. The stay turned out to be decidedly expensive. The courtesy of the innkeeper is of little use if you then sell something different from what you bought, and for the same price. We found dirt in the bed between the mattress and the four-poster cabinet. Who knows how long they haven't got their hands on it. A negative experience during a trip in which we stayed in a dozen castles. The tree-lined path is positive. In any case, it is personal opinion that similar structures are not suitable for housing for figures over € 200 per night as required...
Read moreWe stayed at the Chateau for a surprise visit to my sister for her birthday, who lives nearby. What a wonderful location. Our satnav took us straight to the Chateau, which as you would expect, is one of the main features of the surrounding area. The Chateau was the inspiration for the Puss in Boots fairytale and it has two stunning buildings. First the amazing Chateau and secondly the incredible Medieval Tower (where we stayed) in the Chambre Gothic! just above the Room of the Black Prince!!||||The Chateau, its grounds and realxed yet grand surroundings (120 acres for you to roam in) including the gem of an Orangery, are wonderful but this was surpassed by Charles Henri and Sophie, the owners and your hosts, who were delightful and simply could not do enough for us. Their good humour and welcoming style put you immediately at ease, they are most agreeable hosts.||||The sumptuous breakfasts really set us up for the day, thank you so much Sophie. Charles Henri's in depth knowledge of the Chateau, its history, along with the cast of characters that feature throughout an interesting past, is simply remarkable.||||Charles Henri, Sophie we bid you au revoir but not goodbye, we hope to see you both again soon. Give our regards to the...
