I love this island!! Seriously never wanted to leave. Campsite wasn't amazing. It has good and bad points. Not sure if I would choose to come back to it, but it wouldn't be a problem if we did. No strong objections, just didn't love it. |Swimming pool was nice, it had a shaded bit in case it rains and lots of sun beds. We discovered a "poo" (happens everywhere) so told the staff who cleaned it up and put a tablet in immediately. Surprised they didn't vacate the pool? Pool entertainment was short but good.|Wasn't too impressed with the bar/cafe by the pool. Staff were slow, food not great. But, it met a need once. |The pitches were fine, varied spaces |The evening entertainment was top quality seriously - amazing bands. We were only there two nights and it was great. We could hear from our campervan, very noisy and quite late into the evening. |I personally found the cleanliness of the shower block could have been more frequently cleaned. We realise after visiting various sites that it is typical of French sites to not have toilet seats. |I think the campsite is excellent location for cycling. Middle of the island and short drive from key places. There is a massive Super U near the entrance/roundabout to campsite which is very handy. ||The island is traditional french landscape and culture. There is SO much cycling to do. I think that is why I loved it so much. We went for 6 hours with the kids around the island and there is still so much to see. Island has cycle lanes every where, really safe. Completely flat. Perfect for the kids. We had a flat tyre and managed to get it resolved, the man was friendly when we needed to stop, got out a parasol for the kids while we waited. |Visited the fort south of the island. Took our vans - that was s good day trip. |Beaches are lovely. Kids did crabbing once. I would definitely come back...
Read moreWe stayed here for a couple of weeks in June, before French sites get busy and we were surprised how quiet it was.||||We visited Ile de Re last year and much preferred Oleron. Dolus, whilst not the most happening place on the island has a good bakery and an Intermarche supermarket with petrol and it's a great place for cycling most of the island. ||||The site has barrier access - the keyboards are almost in the hedge, so it's difficult to position yourself to tap in the access code and impossible when towing a caravan.||||The staff were helpful, but had limited English.||||The pool was good and the chairs around it were new for this season and it was never too busy. The adjacent snack bar was opening just after we had left, for July. The toilet block was dated, but very clean and the shower temperature could be adjusted. ||||The free wifi was a bonus and a good signal. Careful pitch selection meant that we managed to get UK satellite tv, but the tall pine trees did get in the way on many of the larger pitches. Electricity was 10 amp, better than other more expensive sites that we stayed on during our trip. No tourist tax and they take ACSI cards off peak.||||We would use...
Read moreWe had a very very comfy modern cabin well shaded and well equipped for the week. the site was very quiet and the covered heated pool is great as this time of year. The campsite is within walking /cycling distance of a big supermarket and a village with the usual shops which are mostly shut as it's the end of the season. The best village on the island is Saint Pierre which as a great market with amazing selection of local produce including the freshest fish, seafood and oysters. If you want to eat superb food and not do a lot apart from swimming and cycling then it makes a great holiday. There is no need to go and get ripped off at a local restaurant with the quality of the food you can buy here. The big downside for me is the once you have indulged in the food I found it boring after a few days because the island is not the prettiest and there is not a lot to do apart from the beach. I would not come back for...
