Evening entertainment was disappointing. We were a party of two families (4 adults and 6 kids). We stayed at Les Charmettes from June 18th to June 30th 2023.
The place is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. There is a team of guys cutting grass, trimming hedges, removing rubbish, etc. The pool complex is spotless with lots of friendly life guards on duty every day. Any issue with the mobile home were sorted out immediately and these were very minor. Overall the mobile home was perfect and clean, but we found it strange that our mobile home (3-bed), which was the same as my brothers mobile home, had some differences. For example; they had a washing machine and dishwasher in theirs, we did not. So washing dished became a daily task in our cabin for all meal times.
There is a supermarket on site, which is well stocked, but pricy. We used to drive to Super U for our large food shops. There was a nice atmosphere during the day around the pool complex, but the evening entertainment options are not great. There were a few nights where there was nothing happening. The main stage was empty and they ran a quiz another night inside the bar, but it was all in French, so no good for the many English speaking people on site.
In terms of keeping the kids entertained in the main center area, depends on money, e.g. the arcade or the Creperie. There was nothing free that didn't require money every few minutes from parents. The playground is out of sight for the parents to sit and relax as it's behind the main center buildings and court yard.
Overall, Les Charmettes is a very nice campsite, but they need to improve the evening entertainment in our opinion and from June also. We heard, it will be better in July and August at the busier times, but we were there in mid-end of June and we felt there was still quite a lot of families on site, to justify the camp organizers putting on full entertainment in the evening. If we were there in April or May you could understand the absence of providing evening entertainment, but June is a peak...
Read moreLarge Haven (Siblu) campsite. A pleasant place to visit out of season, peaceful and relaxing with lots to see locally so long as you have a car.
We flew in to La Rochelle, stayed overnight, picked up our hire car and then drove an hour to the site.
Even with the hire car, the flights from Stansted and the overnight stop in La Rochelle it was still a good value for the week. We booked with an owner directly, which probably saved us a few pounds. The barrier entry system was a bit of a phaff but once it was sorted the rest of the week was a breeze.
The site is large, well spaced out with plenty of green areas. I should imagine in high season that it's packed. The site has a bar and restaurant as well as an outdoor performance area for shows plus an indoor area. Both were closed. The supermarket is well stocked and it wasn't overly expensive. It was winding down for the season so the range of fresh products was a little limited, but that's only to be expected.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Either as a semi-permanent resident or as staying for a week or two there's plenty to see and do, both on the site and in the local area. I even had a haircut.
The local zoo is worth a visit. Out of season there's an abundance of beautiful walks, either in the local countryside or on one of the many beaches. The beaches were all, without exception immaculate. The early autumnal sun shone all week.
Our caravan was immaculate. A nice plot tucked out of the way. Ideal as an out of season break or a full-on summer holiday with young children. There's plenty...
Read moreFamily Stay. This was our fifth Siblu holiday, but our first timer at Les Charmettes. The new fast track check in is a great idea and I think this helped reduce the time taken to pick up the van keys on arrival. As we did not have the registration of our hire car we could not check in in advance, but benefited from less queues.
Les Charmettes is by far the biggest Siblu venue we have stayed at. The onsite supermarket is reasonably well stocked and not overly expensive. Facilities on site are very good. We hired bikes from the on site company, bear in mind they only takes cash on site.
The entertainment team were friendly as usual and always keen to help out. I would say that some of the shows/choreography was a little more bizarre than we have experienced before. It's still quite amusing though and I cannot fault the ents team for effort. The bar staff were efficient and friendly, we really loved the restaurant. The food was excellent and service was friendly.
The only gripe we had was the lack of communication and organisation from the pool staff. My wife waited for half an hour whilst a member of staff attempted to sweep up pine needles rather ineffectively against the wind. It was only after another member of staff turned up that they then told the guests that it was going to be closed for a while. Oh, and lane swimming in the outside pool could be enforced a little better.
As ever we were sad to leave our holiday home and thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks. We would...
