Liked: Younger lady on reception tried her hardest to help guests.
Disliked: We had booked in December for a tent pitch for 5 nights & requested a quiet spot as we aware we were going to be up very early each morning to go on hikes for this Particular leg of the trip. Check in was fine, although we had to go back to ask for a Wi-Fi password, perhaps this could be added to the site map rather than an ink stamp on a bit of paper ? Our pitch no. 49 was absolutely not meant for tents. There was no grass to be seen but worse than that the ground was full of loose stones 1-2inches each and there were too many to move to make the ground suitable. We asked to be moved to a smaller pitch next door which looked slightly better but unfortunately we were firmly told that everyone had their allocated pitch & that was that. We were informed the site was due to be fully booked and that was the end of it (basically take it or leave it). As we had been travelling such a long distance and not having many options around us, doubting weâd get any refund we reluctantly set up. In addition we were placed next to a family of 8 who were running up and down the main road with water guns screaming at each other. The first night the quiet hours were not observed by the majority of guests around us with the noise going on until around 1am. The second night there was either a music festival or rave in close proximity that went on from 11pm to 4.30 am. We had booked this site hoping for a peaceful stay in a forest environment but during our stay it was not to be. I believe if you are in a camper van or caravan you may have a different experience but for people in a tent or who want to get to sleep before 1am this is not the site. Our main issue is the total lack of flexibility or understanding. It is stated a tent pitch is a grass pitch & even though we booked over 6 months in advance & had paid in full this was not provided to us. Nor any attempt to try and provide what we had paid for. Regarding the site being full we were so disappointed to see that this wasnât the case at all and that there were many turn up and books whilst we were in the reception area during our stay. In addition to note the much smaller pitch next to us which we thought better for a tent was occupied by a large camper van the first 2 nights and the space was left empty for the remainder of our stay. It would have been better for the camper to be on our bigger pitch and us have the smaller pitch. It just didnât logically make any sense why there was zero flexibility upon arrival. We didnât bother to raise our observations the following nights with the reception staff as we were so disgusted by the original response that we did not want to talk to the head receptionist, or owner again. Final note: if you need to leave prior to 7.30 am for a ferry departure, etc. You will be advised that you can spend the last night in a temporary spot outside the main gate so that you can get on your way. Again prob not a problem for campers/caravans but totally inconvenient for tents. Luckily we did not have that problem. But do believe it should be highlighted clearly within Arrival/departure information. We hope this...

The initial booking experience was quite stressful. Whilst there's online booking it doesn't check availability but does take a deposit (you're not told this until after leaving payment). So you're left not knowing whether your booking will be accepted and yet unable to book elsewhere without losing a deposit. This makes for an unnecessarily stressful inbound journey. I tried ringing during reception hours but got answerphone directing me to the website.
Site itself is quite pleasant. Pitches are good sized, although quite variable in size and accessibility. Luxury pitches notionally have water and waste, but it's more like having a shared tap on the pitch rather than your own private facilities. Toilet waste point is at the south toilet block.
The pitches on the west edge back onto sports field so can be a bit noisy and the fence is unattractive. Pitches to the south west are in permanent shade from the woods - good in the summer but damp (and mud) in the autumn. It rained a lot whilst we were there but the pitch surface held up.
North toilet block is modern, very clean and supplied with soap and paper, but the showers and sinks are closed at night (so no toothbrushing before bed). South east block is more basic but open all the time. Overall best facilities we found in Normandy.
Trouble with a relatively expensive site is that it attracts the selfish camper. On a supposedly quiet site we had neighbours with guitars, someone playing Abba at full volume and someone doing a Dom Joly impression on their phone (yes, we know you're on the phone to your sister in your caravan awning - the entire campsite does). And the person who wasn't prepared to put their car on the grass and so parked blocking the access road. None of these can really be blamed on the site, and so haven't affected my star rating, but spoilt the experience.
There's pleasant cycling and walking direct from the site and the two ferries are an easy hike away.
There is a bread delivery to site, but you need to book in advance. We weren't told this and so missed out. The baker in town is good. There are also a few restaurants / bars and a grocer. It's an easy 15 min walk into town along the road. Unfortunately the site exit that Google Maps recommends doesn't exist and you have to go the long way around via the main...
Read moreI have really debated over what to say about this place, as it was such a bad experience. When we first arrived it was very late. We had WiFi and sat nav problems that resulted in our reservation being dropped and we were very grateful that they agreed to put us up on a temporary pitch just outside the gates. We were a bit shocked that it was so quiet on the actual site and that everything except the toilets were locked but that is their rule. Although, it may be helpful to put the rules up on the website to avoid the negative feelings many people have had about this place. It was very clean and seemed well maintained from what we could see in the dark. The toilets were clean. All seemed positive. However, just outside the gates, it did not feel safe. There were voices in the night just outside the campervan window. There is what looked to be a sports ground next to us, not on site. I could not settle, so I closed and locked all the lower windows. During the night I was woken several times, once by a strong rocking motion. I had never felt this camper move like that before. I told myself it was the children moving- it wasn't. In the morning, we discovered part of our back bumper, with a light, had been removed. And an attempt had been made to take the other side. We reported it right away- not to blame the owners or managers, but to ask for help. This was a rental and we had no idea what to do. But they became very defensive and refused to accept that it could have happened and would not help. We paid and when my husband asked for a receipt we were told not to return. I am stunned by the unfriendly and unhelpful attitude. It would not have cost you anything to help us report this, we have insurance, because as we later discovered they had also loosened our brake light panels and the bike rack clamps and undid the panel for the refrigeration exhaust and tried to open the storage door. Which is no accident or something that could result from one. And scary because my child sleeps right by that door, if it is opened, he is right there sleeping above our things! Just helping us report this would have completely changed this experience because you seem to have a lovely campsite. It is a shame we did not get to...
