I booked at very short notice return flights to Berlin from Newcastle on Tyne and a 4 night stay at the Aap Hotel, which is in the budget category. The hotel is nothing to look at from the outside, and from the inside it is not exactly cosy. There is new management, and there is an attempt to change it from a glorified hostel to a budget hotel. Good news: the lift for the hotel is now working in this multi-storey building, which dates back to the days of the German Democratic Republic.||My basic room, which was clean, was en-suite, with a shower, wash basin and toilet. The shower had a special filter as a precaution against Legionaires Disease. My room was classed as a double room, but I was only charged for single occupancy. The double bed had two single matresses, so I was able to use just one of the matresses. I have to say I slept well in the bed. There was a wardrobe, but no tv and telephone (to contact reception), no working Wi-Fi in my room while I was in the hotel, I had two chairs and a table, which I would class as garden furniture. The old tilt-turn wood windows are a bit dodgy, and some do not open.||My room security was good. I had an electronic keycard, for which I had to pay a 10 Euros deposit, which was returned to me when I left the hotel.||The island-type bar in the large vestibule served alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at what I thought were reasonable prices. Scattered around the vestibule were seats of various kinds and there was an area to watch a large wall-mounted tv. In the vestibule there is free-to-use Wi Fi, when it is working.||The young friendly staff were helpful and could converse in English and German. Finally the buffet breakfast for only 5 Euros was of outstanding value. The selection was very good. Payment for breakfast is made at Reception. One is given a piece of blue plastic, which is then handed to the kitchen staff in the cafeteria to verify entitlement to breakfast.||Some people criticise this budget hotel. Ultimately you get what you pay for. I certainIy was satisfied. I have been to many hotels, some quite luxurious, and when I review a hotel, my comments are based on my own experiences in that particular establishment.||That is all about the hotel. What about ease of access from the centre of Berlin ? The best way is to catch the Ahrensfelde-bound M8 tram from near the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and get off at the stop for Allee der Kosmonauten. The hotel is only about 50 metres from the tram stop. The journey time is about 35 minutes. I advise travellers to buy good-value multiple-day tickets, say for zones A and B, which allows travel on trams, buses, underground railway (U-Bahn) and suburban railways (S-Bahn) in a large part of Berlin. After buying a ticket, it is important to validate the ticket by date-stamping it in a special machine. Failure to do so can result in fines. Inspectors dressed in casual clothing check passenger tickets at...

About 8:15 p. m. I left from that dusgusting hotel.
We are already in a tough time with Covid-19 and Im not visit Berlin to be sick or get some kein of disease by that hotel. Every guest in that hotel are in a way in danger for any kein of disease and can be sick anytime and that hotel is definitely not healty.
I wonder why that hotel is not shut down and I would not be surprised if there already are rats around the hotel. That hotel must be closed and needs for...

While staying at this place, it felt like I was staying in a hostel instead of a 2 star hotel.||On the arrival day I was changed to 3 different rooms.|1.rooms sanitary norm was not reasonable, shelf almost falling down if you put something on it, doors repaired and painted catastrophically as child would have done it, a yellow chair with brown spots all over it and etc. - therefore I asked for another number that was assigned to me.|2.room - Okay sanitary better then the first one but with dripping sink and BEDBUGS! I immediately informed the reception about the BEDBUGS, but they took it as an normal thing and simply changed the room, saying that it was free of BEDBUGS.|3.room was almost Okay, except dirty wall, mold in bathroom corners and insufficiently cleaned floor, but the feeling that there could be BUDBEGS couldn't let me sleep all night long.
