The good, the bad, the ugly. The Hotel Rautenstock a really nice hotel. Vintage, well refurbished, spacious rooms, very clean. Very very clean. Whoever was in charge of design did an excellent job - until reality kicked in: no one really cares. I am currently visiting students who participate in my #karpademy scholarship project; this weekend, Daniela, in Finsterwalde, Germany. She picked the hotel - and since she did not know what time I might arrive, she went and got the key for me—lucky her. I’ve been here for a couple of days now, and no matter how early I arrived (one evening around 7:30 pm), the place was always closed and locked (and the night entrance is round the block. Good to know, as there is no sign, of course ;-)||||The real adventure started to find our room - room #03. Usually, I would look on the ground floor. We did. No room. First floor: rooms, but not labeled. As I was past midnight, I was dead scared to try the key on all doors, but there was no chance. Result: no fit. So I checked the second floor - and I found it. I would have thought someone had the sensibility to inform the coming guests that rooms start on the second floor. No lift, by the way.||||Then: not a trace of a smile at reception, I felt like an intruder when asking for breakfast. Coffee on the table for hours. Same with the eggs, stone cold. The lady in charge was doing dishes (loud) in the kitchen next door or moving in and out with the mop, leaving the kitchen door open. I got up and silently closed the door - the get the look, “what on Earth do you want.” I feel so sorry for this place. It’s really really nice. Honestly, I wanted to love the place - the scholarship runs for at least one year; since this is my first trip, I will come back to the area multiple times. Still, I am positive I will ask for another hotel. As I write this, they are cleaning the kitchen. Loud and smelly - yuk. ||||By the way: the internet is so slow I had to post this from home. The hotel internet was not fast enough. The hotel did not even bother to have themselves listed on Yelp. I did. Sorry, but this is not...
