Hotel Rheingarten — Hotel in Duisburg

The staff at the Rheingarten make you feel welcome immediately on arrival at their pleasant, fifteen storey hotel located at the confluence of the Rhein and Ruhr rivers. Each room has a balcony, half with a city view and half with a river view. Both rivers are navigable and there's a pretty much constant procession of freight barges and tour boats passing by day and night. Unfortunately no air conditioning meant a choice between overheating but keeping the noise out and keeping cool but being disturbed by passing river traffic. Nevertheless, it's ideally situated for business travellers and is close by the autobahn exit - beware of the small car park, but street parking nearby is unrestricted. Spent five nights here during Medica. An excellent hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Our bedroom with adjoining sitting area was spacious and very comfortable, as was the bathroom. Good quality amenities. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was varied and generous. Gluten free bread was provided upon request. Parking available. View from the room to the Rhein River was lovely. Nice balcony with the room. Location is not central to Duisburg and therefore quiet. Can walk along the path by the river. Surrounding area is mainly residential and some businesses. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a good selection for the buffet breakfast but there was never a huge amount put out at once. Instead there was always sufficient for the number of people in the restaurant and they attended to it constantly toenusre it was topped up. I prefer this arrangement to hotels who fill it up at 7am and you are eating food that has been sitting out for 2 hours if you do not eat until 9am. Rooms were comfortable, additional items like a razor were supplied on request at reception. Not something negative really, but be aware the hotels car park only has 8 spaces. We were always fortunate to have a space as the hotel didn't seem to be very busy but alternative parking is available...
