Melsungen is a historic little town in the Fulda valley along the Half-Timbered House Road. The hotel building, right in the middle of the old city, is itself half-timbered with a modern interior.||||A sixteenth century stone bridge, with sculpures of lumberjacks, crosses the river Fulda and leads to the railway station, from where regional trains will take you to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Kassel main station about 20 minutes.||||The market square with the impressive half-timber Rathaus is being renovated and is only a few minutes away.||||Centrinum is ideally located. It is a small hotel with only 12 rooms. Our room on the first floor was modern, with minibar, desk, easy chair, flat-screen tv and internet access. The beds were very comfortable.||||The bathroom is spacious and well equipped. Our only criticism was that the shower above the bath could only be used as a hand shower. Also the bottom of the bath was lower than the bathroom floor, which made getting in and out slightly difficult in the absence of hand rails. If you are elderly or disabled, the hotel's specially adapted room and bathroom would be a better option.||||We did not try the sauna, sanarium, sun beds or bistro, but had dinner outside the restaurant on the terrace. The food was excellent and nicely prepared, and we were unexpectedly treated to an antipasto and mixed salad before our fried trout dish arrived. The service was quick and very friendly.||||In fact everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. ||||Breakfast was adequate with an assortment of rolls, scrambled egg, sausages, smoked salmon, cheeses, sliced fresh fruit, yoghurt, three kinds of jam, orange juice, and...
Read moreI only had a meal here but since there is no separate mention of the restaurant, I will rate the place here. It was quite a relief to get away from standard German food, with its heavy and overspiced dishes. They tried to make the place and the food stand out. The place is fairly narrow and not really big but the layout is spare and modern and I liked it a lot. Service was fine and as could be expected. The food , too, tried but was not altogether successful. It still tended to be oversalty and heavy. The potato soup was quite filling and had too much in it: baconbits and carrots and potatochunks adn Schmand. Too much of a good thing! |The same goes for my main dish : risotto, bit too much al dente and with three sausages where one would suffice. But I suppose they have to cater for customers who are used to large German portions?!|For a perfect meal they would have to choose radically for a different direction, away from the Gutbuergerliche Kueche ! |Still, full marks...
