This was a disappointing holiday, but that was down to Rail Discoveries rather than the hotel.|(Have written a letter of complaint to Rail Discoveries, but not yet had the courtesy of a reply).||The hotel is in a great location, high above the Moselle River and a 5 minute leisurely walk to the railway station. Staff met us at the station and took our luggage up in their truck, we were also given our room details so that we didn't to have a lengthy wait at reception to be checked in.||A spacious, clean hotel and attractively decorated for Christmas. We had a nice bedroom, with comfortable beds and a supply of toiletries in the en suite. ||In general the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. We had an excellent breakfast each morning with plenty of choice. The evening buffet (4 nights) was also very good, nicely presented and properly cooked. Unfortunately there was a shortage of desert (gateaux), not helped by greedy guests taking 3 or 4 helpings to their tables on arrival in the restaurant. |The two set menu dinners on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day created problems and grumbles, chiefly because the hotel were inflexible with the timing on Christmas Eve, insisting we were to be in the restaurant at 6pm. As we didn't return from our excursion until 17.50, this not popular, especially when we weren't actually served until 18.45 with our starters. However the food that evening was very good. On Christmas Day, the set menu was very Germanic in style and, but to be fair, we were holidaying in Germany. As mentioned by previous reviewers, the dumplings were very solid, the chicken breast was rather dry, and the red cabbage overly sweet. ||I would recommend the hotel to others; but dear future guests, you must read all the recent reviews and then make up your own minds if you should...
Read moreWe spent a long weekend at the Parkhotel Krahennest ( incl my 5 yr old son) The arrival was already not smoothless. Check in is at 3 PM, but our room was not ready till 15:30. It was very inconvenient as we needed a quiet area for an important call. We were neither offered a business center nor a cold beverage in 35 C. |We booked a suite as we traveled with a kid. We sadly recognized that the room designer was not a big fan of doors. There was no door between the living room and bedroom and even the bathroom had a transparent glass door, just like the shower in the bathroom...|The room was not exactly big and overall it was not worth the 350 Eur .. maybe € 250 best, but just because it was new ( design is question of taste..). The toilet has automated light, as the sensor was not the best, it kept turning off. |We were also surprised about the "COVID" rule that only 2 people could use the pool at a time. There was a line at the side of the pool so you definitely did not relax when people are waiting for you to get out of the water .. explain it to your kid..It was overdone compared to the "no rule" in the restaurant. Buffet was open, people kept no distance, touched everything with bear hands.. In other hotels where we stayed recently it was the opposite. (The pool could be used freely, but they paid much more attention for serving the food).|Breakfast was a bit of a chaos. 1 coffee machine which was broken all the time.. I spent at least 30 min a day on trying to...
Read moreWe visited with a Rail Discoveries Christmas package wondering what we would find after reading very mixed reviews. Overall we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is about 300m from Löf station up a fairly steep hill, and hotel staff helped with baggage and less able guests. The hotel appeared bright and clean, and our room was a reasonable size, clean, well equipped, with a good shower/toilet and comfortable bed.|The food was buffet style (except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), with reasonable choice and good quality at both breakfast and dinner. Hot food was generally adequately hot. Popular dishes sometimes ran out leaving late comers with less choice. On Christmas Eve and Day dinner was waiter-served at table; there was no choice of menu, and the food was not to everyones taste. The service was irritatingly slow.|Generally, we found the staff friendly and helpful, and service good, although some did not react well to any critical queries.|Overall, we would give the hotel 3½ stars relative to its 4 star rating. It was good for this first visit to the Moselle valley and as a base for the daily rail excursions, but Löf does not have much to offer as a village, and we will probably seek a different location for future visits to...
