Hotel Gasthof Zur Krone — Hotel in Riedenburg

We stayed here because this was the cheapest place on a list of hotels with rooms reserved for a wedding we attended in the area and also because it was not a resort type hotel (some of the others on the list were). It turned out to be a great decision because it was a really nice place. The rooms were clean and modern although they didn't have air-conditioning. We knew that and were prepared for it. It would cool off enough in the evening so we could sleep pretty well. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The included breakfast was very good. It was served in the hotel restaurant which had a really nice terrace.|We really didn't have time to do much except wedding activities and then we traveled to other parts of Germany but it was a very beautiful rural area and it looked like it would be fun to go back to sometime and explore. There are small castles to explore, fairytale-like forests to hike, bike trails and the Danube river close by with the oldest cloister monastery brewery in the world (established around 1050 ad). I think it is called Weltenburger. We did go there and it was awesome. It had a beer garden and of course a beautiful cathederal. It was really fun getting there because we had to ride a ferry (without the vehicle) across the Danube. Then walk up a narrow road along the Danube which looked practically deserted. Through a narrow, gated, high stone wall to a small courtyard (still very few people) and then through a wider, gated, stone wall and surprise, there's a beer garden full of people in the middle of the...

This is a really magic place; a Gasthof in the traditional sense by the banks of the Main-Donau canal. The Gasthof is popular with cyclists and walkers in the lovely Altmuhltal. A map of the walks/trails can be bought from reception. ||||The rooms are in a newer block hence well very appointed. The real joy is the family run bar/restaurant/reception which is popular with locals and others who pop in and out like a party of ladies out for a meal, some drinks and talking. ||||The food is very good, not ultra haute cuisine but well cooked, well presented and of ample portions and tending towards more traditional German dishes like pumpkin soup, Schweitzer schnitzel and a very good Lambrollbraten. A range of wines as well as a range of local fruit schnapps is available in addition to beer. The service was very good and to my surprise, a rarity in Germany, a cheese board. Very good breakfast as well.||||Perhaps the only thing about the menu was the unclear division between starters and main courses (bit cluttered) and some dishes were available at various times. Wir hatten einen Besuch mit einer großen Familie, 12 Personen. Der Besuch war Tage vorher angekündigt(reserviert), gem. Anweisung am Telefon hatten wir auch unsere Wunschgerichte vorab telefonisch reserviert. Leider mussten wir eine Vielzahl verschiedener Unannehmlichkeiten erfahren, die unseren Besuch sehr getrübt haben: 1.Der gewünschte/reservierte Platz wurde uns nicht zugewiesen. Statt auf der schönen Terrasse durften wir im Hinterhof, neben parkenden Autos und ankommenden Hotelgästen sitzen. Kommentar der Chefin: "da kann man keinen Abstand mehr halten, es ist kein Platz mehr".auf der Terrasse war 1 Tisch besetzt, mindestens 5 weitere frei. Die reservierten Gerichte waren nicht mehr verfügbar. Kommentar der Chefin: "Es gibt keine Forelle mehr, was soll ich da jetzt noch machen??" 3.Kleinigkeit, aber die online einsehbare Speisekarte gilt nicht am Wochenende Ein (Wasser)glas war deutlich verschmiert. Kommentar des Ausschankes: "Wenn man Kuchen serviert, dann passiert das schon mal!". Immerhin gab es anstandslos ein neues Wasser. Wir waren mit einem Gericht nicht ganz zufrieden, und haben das auf die obligatorische Nachfrage "Hat alles gepasst?" auch so erklärt. Der Küchenchef kam darauf hin und hat sich das Problem angehört. Leider war auch er nicht empfänglich für Kritik und ist nach kurzer Diskussion mit dem Worten "Versuchen Sie mal hier um 16 Uhr irgendwo noch etwas Warmes zu essen zu bekommen!!" deutlich verärgert abgezogen. Anmerkung: Der Gasthof wirbt mit durchgehend warmer Küche. 6.der Gasthof wirkt im Innenbereich sehr ungepflegt, der Gang zu den Toiletten und ebenso der Küchen-und Ausschankbereich müssen aufgeräumt werden!

Wir hatten also leider eine sehr enttäuschende Erfahrung, was vor allem an der Reaktion der Chefin und des Küchenchefs an unseren Beschwerden lag. Hätten diese entspannt und freundlich reagiert, hätten wir uns vermutlich auch wohler fühlen können. Das übrige Servicepersonal war bemüht, hat aber leider nichts zu melden. Das Essen ist durchschnittlich, wie man es vermutlich in den meisten Gaststätten in der Gegend bekommt. Wer spontan und als kleine Gruppe vorbei kommt und sich wohl fühlt kann hier bestimmt auch glücklich werden, wir werden als Familie hier keinesfalls wieder kommen.als Gäste haben wir uns hier nicht wertgeschätzt...
