We found the hotel just with a Google search so really didn't know what to expect but my goodness, it exceeded what we could have hoped for. I was traveling with my daughter (12), and my friend and her two sons (11, 12) so we rented two apartments that shared a kitchen (rooms 400/401). ||||The rooms were spacious, clean and well kept. Each apartment was able to be closed off from one another for privacy, and each family had their own bathrooms and balcony. The kitchen was spotless and had everything we needed as far as tools and equipment went. There is a grocery store just a few minutes drive up the road, so this was perfect. The second bed in the bigger apartment was a pull out sofa and could have been a bit softer but otherwise all beds were comfortable and clean. ||||The hotel grounds were very well kept and the staff was friendly. We were there during a very hot time and we were given fans in our rooms. I do suggest you ask ahead of time if it is going to be a trip during warm months. ||||The pool area was fantastic. The kids swam every day we were there. The restaurant was good, a bit pricey, but I would suggest going into the village for dinner anyway. The village center is a very quick and easy 5 minute walk away and brings you everything you want in a German village. Lovely bakeries, cafes, ice cream shops, stores... it was perfect. ||||The hotel is located down in the valley so you have gorgeous, 360 degree views of the forrest. It was stunning. A short little walk up the street there were fruit trees and a small hill to get even better views of your surroundings. The location is perfect for day trips out to places like Triberg (for the water fall) and the hotel even has bus excursions you can take. We had a car so we didn't take advantage of that, so I cannot fairly comment on the quality of those. ||||I am not somebody who looked forward to a forrest vacation but I have been converted. I actually would like to come back in the autumn when the leaves are turning. It was such a wonderful experience...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel over the Christmas week, 2024. It's a family hotel, with apparently, several houses to it. on either side of a quiet road. My room on the ground floor was a twin room, and was pleasantly warm, clean and with plenty of storage space, always important. It would have been nice to have some tea making equipment, but there was nothing apart from a bottle of water, priced at 2 euros.|The Bar was pleasant, not huge, but with some individual tables. However, I did feel that the welcome to English people was not very warm. We were asked to vacate a table so that another party could sit there, no Reserved sign had been placed. Dinner was in a very large, partially divided room, and the food was good but not the most exciting, using noodles/pasta often rathe than potatoes. I had hoped for Schnitzel or Apple strudel but that didnt happen.|There is a spa and pool which I didnt use. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk into the little town which has interesting shops. |On Christmas Eve there was a 5 course dinner with a very nice Youth choir singing to us. The best day of my visit was on Christmas Day, when I booked a Taxi to take me into the real Black Forest. covered in snow.|I'm not sure I would rush back there, but it was a pleasant place to stay...
Read moreA strange kind of hotel this one: it is in a residential area of a nice little historical town, Zell am Harmersbach. There are little houses all along a road where there are rooms or little apartments; in a building you have wellness area, in another one there is the reception and a downstairs restaurant/stube. It could be nice apparently, but being rain a natural condition of these places, you have often to take umbrellas getting out of your building (red ones are at customers'disposal). Service is good, people are kind. Restaurant for dinner and breakfast is ok, nothing remarkable..wellness area is nice..but it could be forbidden to little children. Most customers of this hotel are numerous families and old people so if you are travelling with your children and your parents-in-law, that's the right place. A nice initiative (included in the rate) is a DB card to travel by train: I recommend it: it is a nice way to visit little nice towns and villages, see green views of the country and all this in a relaxing way: Deutsche Bahn...
