We attended this venue for lunch on the way from Elmina Castle. Firstly, this was located in a beautiful space right on the beach. However, that's where it stopped. We placed our meal order and it took forever for the food to arrive. When it did it was only one dish. It was another 10 minutes at least before the second plate arrived. We lost track of time before the final set of dishes arrived. One of the party had ordered Jollof Rice. It was another ten minutes after everyone had received their meals before a waitress arrived with fried rice saying that they had run out of Jollof. That in itself was not an issue, the problem was this was not conveyed to us before they arrived with the fried rice. An order is an order and if they were unable to fulfill the order then we should have been notified and given the choice to request an alternative and not have the decision made for us.||Secondly, where we were sitting they had table tennis which people were using. I couldn't understand why it was thought to be appropriate to have people smacking a ball in front of people who are eating. I was hit with the ball twice and I was not happy about this especially as the person who had hit me thought it was hilarious.||As I was leaving I went to use the toilet which was locked. At this point I thought there was only one toilet. After waiting for a considerable time I rattled the door only for it to be opened and it was evident from the three people standing there that it was being used as a changing room. The toilets were very unpleasant, wet and in need of a good clean, probably not helped by the fact that it was being used by people who had been swimming.||It was such a shame as this is a lovely venue and the view is gorgeous. However, staffing is an issue as the wait for food and the bill was just too long. They need to notify guests if a dish is not available and the table tennis needs to be...
Read moreThis was the second time that my family and I visited Coconut grove beach resort. And that too within a span of a month. This was back in December 2015. The first time we came was a short trip where we came to check out the place as we wanted a place to stay for Christmas and this was one of our options. Suffice to say it was a perfect decision to stay here.
We took the family suite which has a large hall and two bedrooms for two families or more. It's decked with a fridge, microwave and a TV. It also a balcony outside where you can sit and enjoy the breeze. We took suite 1B which is closer to the reception and is not beach facing but enjoyable none the least.
The breakfast is complimentary and they have a good spread. A mix of continental and Ghanaian food items. Their a la carte menu is also good plus they have vegetarian options which is a bit rare.
The rooms were spotless and the room service did a fantastic job of cleaning up the place. The staff are very courteous. Special mentions to Benedicta and Lawrencia (front office managers) who put up with our constant plan and room changes and handled it professionally.
There is a wide variety of things to do in the resort. They have a gym, golf course, horse riding and a crocodile park. Plus a great swimming pool. One for the kids and one for the adults which has a depth ranging from 3 feet to 6 feet.
For those who want to swim on the beach, it's advisable not to as it's a rocky beach and the tide is very rough. The hotel advises people not to swim in it.
On special nights the hotel gets a live band to play music for the guests.
The bar has a great selection of alcohol and you can ask for various cocktails.
All in all this is a very good place to visit if you have a 2-3 day holiday. I enjoyed it and I shall be visiting the place again...
Read moreCONSUMER ALERT! I can’t say be careful; rather, find somewhere else! If you are visiting beautiful Ghana from another country, this post is for you! I booked at this resort two months prior to coming. I booked directly through Coconut Grove’s website and avoided a third party site for the reason of not wanting any miscommunication issues. Upon booking (ie. choosing room and dates), you receive an email with a confirmation code. Since I was not comfortable with receiving a confirmation without giving a CC number, I followed up with an email to confirm. No response. A few weeks later, I called the hotel and confirmed my reservation with a representative. I even checked the website to ensure the same type of room that I booked was still available. Two weeks prior to coming, my Ghanaian friend called with me to confirm the reservation. Once again, I was told, not to worry. Fast forward to check-in, the two receptionists are telling me I don’t have a reservation and the confirmation code is not hotels. WHAT??? This is a complete lie because they end up showing me the email from their system. Long story short, they overbooked the hotel. I arrived after dark with my two children and mother. They made no accommodations. They were completely unprofessional and unaccommodating. The receptionists and the nighttime manager (Mellick) kept trying to speak to my driver in TWI to keep me out of the loop (English is the official language). My family was literally put out with an, “oh well, sorry” story. I did everything to avoid this, booked directly, called twice and yet, they overbooked and had nothing to offer. There is a good ending, I was able to secure a room at a new resort, Lemon Beach. Google...
