We expected so much from Lemon Beach Resort and it was supposed to be the highlight of our trip ... but in the end we were hugely disappointed. I have already been to many different accommodations in Ghana. But at Lemon Beach you absolutely do not get what you pay for. The price is definitely NOT justified - it is completely overpriced. We've stayed in very simple accommodations and normally we do not expect much. But if I pay $ 100 (African Chalet) or $ 130 (Deluxe Double Room) for a room per night, then the service has to be good.
The hotel is (according to Instagram) only 2 years old, but it already looks very old. Unfortunately everything is rather made “cheap” and without much love… The umbrellas at the pool, e.g., are already very broken. The cushions for the sun loungers as well. The pool was also not cleaned every day as stated. Sometimes it was really dirty and murky.
The rooms are not what you would expect either. At first glance, they look very nice, but if you look closely, they also have many deficits: a lot has already rusted in the bathroom. The shower fitting fell down on us the first time we showered. Since there are no soap dishes, the wood around the sink looks very worn. The mirror over the sink was not cleaned, the glass of the shower door was not cleaned as well.. also the garbage cans were dirty. In the “Deluxe Double Rooms” you would actually have a wonderful view through the window front, but they were so dirty that you didn't want to look out. In addition, you could not lock the door to the outside because the lock was broken. The “African Chalet”, which we also had, was also much smaller than you can see in the photos on the Internet! In the bathroom, due to its small size, you hardly have the opportunity to turn around.
The service of the whole staff is a disaster! We were asked every day whether we would like room service. Every time we told them that we would like fresh towels and new toilet paper. Neither was brought to us. We asked six! times within 3 days to bring us fresh towels, which they finally brought us on the last evening just before bed, when we no longer needed them.
Service in the restaurant was extremely slow and disorganized. Apart from the fact that you wait ages for your orders (15 minutes for 1 Sprite or even 30 minutes for 1 cappuccino), not a single time the complete order was brought to our table. Every time (!!!) the wrong food or drink was served. Especially at breakfast we never got what we ordered. Boiled eggs instead of omelets. Bacon instead of fruit, coffee instead of tea, etc ... At dinner parts of the meal were sometimes even cold (rice hot, meat cold). Basically the food was good and tasted, but the overall service is really bad.
The supposedly "very good wifi" never worked during our stay. We know that there has been a general Vodafone failure, but they did not communicate or apologize at the guests for it.
There were regular blackouts. Here too, of course, we know that this is a fundamental problem in the country. But in Ghana I've never seen it as bad as in the Lemon Beach Resort. Here, too, they did not apologize for it. But If I run a facility like this, this has to be done.
We have made a deposit of 50% of the total price in advance by bank transfer in Euros. To do this, we asked beforehand what exchange rate we should use. When we checked out we found out that the boss had used a worse exchange rate to our disadvantage. This meant that in the end we paid around € 21 more for the room than we had actually agreed.
There are so many other points of criticism…. It is really the sum of many little things that made up our bad experience at the Lemon Beach Resort. If you request such a huge amount for rooms, then at least the “basics of a good service” have to be ok.
It's a shame, because the concept of Lemon Beach would be really great. You could make a lot of it. But in our case, it was definitely out last...
Read moreStayed for two nights. Not long enough. Recommend at least 3 to really relax especially if doing the drive from Accra. Stayed one night in the family Villa as there was 3 adults. Excellent, comfortable accommodation. In fact little to fault although for some reason the usual tea / coffee sachets were not available. Not a problem as we did not require.
Second night spent upstairs in two separate rooms. Was suppose to be beach front views however we were placed to the side. Still a view. I would highly recommend requesting the ones facing the beach front as the view of the resort alone at night is beautiful. Note: Had stayed and had this experience in 2023 hence my recommendation.
Hotel style room nicely presented, clean however it is a hotel style room. Challenge as per previous experience was the positioning of a structure above the bed which does pose a challenge if you wish to sit up in bed.
Breakfast has moved to buffet style.
Personally preferred the past arrangement where it is prepared on order rather than sitting in hot boxes.
Evening meal was pleasant as were the drink selection.
Staff, as always, were welcoming and ready to assist if required.
The pool was exceptionally well maintained. Pool towels would be helpful if available.
Saturday cultural event. The music I believe is from local artisits however the music was not in time. All muscians seemingly operating as indoividuals in their delivery rather than as a "band".
Nonetheless the presentation was interesting, so too the dance.
The sales for local items from external vendors was a new addition from my previous visit. Quality of goods was not fantastic, the pricing was clearly targeting the overseas tourist who perhaps are a little oblivious to the reality.
There is a small local store close to the resort which offers the same goods, similarly priced but quality does seem somewhat better. Room for negotiation however too the tourist price vrs the local price is a challenge to address.
Highly recommend the resort and would return at any possible opportunity. The beach area further along is clean and the sea water is devoid of rubbish. A pleasant change from Accra beaches.
Booking process was very pleasant, the reception staff very helpful in facilitating the booking...
Read moreI stayed at Lemon solo for part of my stay in Ghana and overall I would recommend for anyone looking for a nice short getaway with a very quiet and laid back atmosphere. The setup was quite nice, I was one of their rooms upstairs, which had a nice view and good design. I think an improvement would be a double bed rather than two singles put together in the room. Additionally the place could be slightly cleaner, as windows where a bit murky and the cushions for the chairs on the balcony where slightly dirty. The internet connection in the room is quite poor and throughout my stay, I had a constant issue with the water pressure and temperature of the water in the shower. The staff were very receptive each time I asked for something, but unfortunately on both fronts they won't really resolved. The food I quite enjoyed, the staff were quite flexible when changing some of the food choices for breakfast. I found most of the food I ate here to be well seasoned and tasty. The did seem to have issue with the blender not working so couldn't really have most cocktails during the last days of my stay which was a shame. The hotel doesn't really have an open beach front due to the barrier, so you can see the sea but you wouldn't really be able to swim or do any watersports or anything like that, so be wary if this is something that you are looking for. One thing that I was slightly disappointed with is the massage they offer. It is a different service from the hotel but they don't really tell you before how it is done. Two women came into my room and performed the "massage" on my bed with baby oil (not typically used for massages). It wasn't really a massage and it was obvious they didn't really know what they were doing. It was suppose to be for 1 hour but they disappeared in my bathroom for 20 minutes or so out of that for a "rest". I just found that service in particular unprofessional and if the hotel promotes this, they should take care that the people doing it are properly trained. The tours to the castles that were scheduled were really good and ran smoothly. Another area of improvement would be Covid protocols, there weren't many really. Despite this I did enjoy my time there, it looks great and has a nice vibe but a few improvements...
