Two praiseworthy aspects, first, the air-conditioning in the bedroom is incredibly effective, and second, they have proper baths, though I had to request a plug for my one, that apart there is little to praise. For instance, though breakfast is included in the room rate, they only had flavoured tea, and requests for either black tea or English breakfast tea were met with a firm 'not available' every morning, same with brown bread, though by the third morning an alert receptionist had ensured there was some. The full menu has many choices that are unavailable, including ice cream to my amazement, every evening I asked for some, but was told that there wasn't any each time, though, to my amazement, they actually managed to produce some very acceptable Crepes Suzette, which a scoop of vanilla ice cream would have improved. The first evening I ordered the sweetcorn soup, their first attempt was so sweet that I thought the chef had emptied a whole bowl of sugar into it and it was therefore inedible, their second attempt was completely tasteless, literally no flavour, and was sent back. Despite that, it was still on the bill that I was asked to sign, so I crossed it out. At checkout, it had reappeared and led to an argument before it was finally removed. Surprisingly their diced chicken with cashew nuts was excellent, so good that I ordered it three nights in succession, as it was a safe option. There was a fairly extensive wine list, but only two choices were available. Their kitchen seems unable to produce sensibly cooked medium-poached eggs, either over or under-cooking them, and they have no idea how to...

Read moreWe were first given small and quite worn out rooms, but upon complaining got reallocated to larger and more expensive rooms - at a cost approaching $90. The room I got was large but tired. A big triangular bath-tub that didn't look inviting (faded plastic, no plug) There was no real garden or pleasant outdoor area where we could sit and have meetings, only some circular concreted walled shelters with plastic chairs and a table, on the noisier road-facing side, but not a pleasant place to relax after a day's work. There is no bar where you can sit (you order drinks at your dining table). The restaurant has no outdoor views; it is a rather claustrophobic curtained room. The food is made to order so usually takes an hour or so. The breakfast was pretty good, better than most places in the northern regions, but on our second day they had a workshop going on and it all got a bit chaotic and most of the food items hadn't arrived at the breakfast area by the time we had to leave at 8 am. This place felt like it was founded by someone who really cared. There were branded towels and little Mariam logos. But it has become run-down over time and needs a full makeover, or it will simply lose all its customers to newer hotels that...
