Worst Hotel experience ever! I really travel a lot because of my work and associations so Iâve been to many hotels & resorts across the country. I repeat this is the worst experience ever. From a mean and stern lady who seemed to be the âmadamâ of all the ladies at the reception to getting infected with malaria. Honestly, I donât know if itâs a policy at âmodern cityâ hotel for that stern and meanness to transcend to the very customers who give you their hard earned cash for at least the bare minimum of hotel hospitality. Yes, because sheâs also mean and stern to her subordinates. When I arrived, I overhead an Asian man at the reception requesting for a room not on the 1st floor, because he had a horrible experience with mosquitoes. They gladly obliged and gave him a different room. He made his reservation the previous day. I had my reservation made almost 4 weeks to my arrival. I decided to engage them and also request for a room above the 1st floor. She explained with all meanness that the Asian people do not close their doors thatâs why he had that experience. I thought it wasnât a reason enough, because at least deal with the mosquito issue, but I tried to understand because from all indications she wasnât going to budge to our request. Is it because Iâm Ghanaian and the other man had a lighter skin complexion? Well itâs already documented the difference between how we treat foreigners and our own country man. âModern cityâ hotel exhibits discrimination to Ghanaians. I accepted my room on the 1st floor went in and realized there was a gap in the washroom window which I tried to solve but couldnât. I traveled to Tamale for an assignment, that was top of mind, so I decided, I will keep the room and try to keep the washroom door closed at all times during my stay. I left for my assignment which was at the UDS campus. The challenge was that anytime they came for room service after I leave, the left the washroom door opened. Iâll come back in the evening to meet that and be looking around for mosquitoes. You may ask why didnât I request or buy an insecticide spray. When you pay hard earned cash to a hotel, you expect to earn the value for money. Itâs the basic minimum. I didnât travel from Accra to Tamale to be a part time âmosquito hunterâ. The bathroom is leaks into the main room. Thereâs an awful smell from the bathroom that gave me sneezing bouts throughout my stay. Iâm back in Accra currently dealing with a sickening bout of malaria. Thank you âmodern cityâ for this. I heard the President Nana Addo, chooses this hotel anytime he is in Tamale. Iâm sure theyâll give him the best of service, but Mr. President I advise you to look for another hotel. A hotel is described as a âbigâ hotel not just because of its structure. Your service to your customers is prime. Maybe they should change the name to Primitive city hotel. Itâs a horrible hotel! Wonât...

Ok, now to the main review, modern city hotel is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in Tamale, it has been around for quite some time, it has come a long way and developed much overtime, it's a popular name in Tamale and I believe that tells you something, that they're better than good at what they offer.
Look, I'm just going to say this flat, modern city is not cheap, if you're looking for a budget friendly place I don't think this is the place for you, however, if quality for money is what you hope for, this place is definitely worth considering.
I don't want to detail too much of what they have and don't have, however, I am going to say that this hotel is a complete package.
A few pointers though, Location I think is just right, gym, bar, pool, conference halls, in fact, this place perhaps is the most available place to hold variety of events, I can't count the number of times I've been here for one event or the other...
Alright, that will be all for now, until my next...
Read moreReally disappointed with this place. We had to suffer staying here for 4 nights while âBest Lodgeâ didnât have rooms but we returned to best lodge as soon as we could for their much better service and rooms.
The window didnât seal so mosquitoes could get in. I got about 30 bites while staying here for 4 days but the week before and after we best lodge I didnât get any bites.
I kept finding cockroaches in the room and even a dead one in the fridge.
I had a room where there was a tin roof just under the window, 24hours a day there was an air conditioning unit above my room dripping on that roof making it very hard to relax.
No mirror in the bathroom for some weird reason.
Rooms are not very clean, felt like I didnât want to touch anything or walk on the floor bare footed.
My room was apparently above the kitchen so I could always smell the grease from chip frying etc.
The staff are seriously apathetic and clearly didnât want to be there either.
If Iâm back in Tamale I will choose to stay anywhere before...
