Metochi Gavdos — Hotel in Gavdos Municipality

Metochi Gavdos is an essential but good accommodation in a very convenient position, as it is not far from any of the various beaches and attractions of the island. |The accommodation is simple but acceptable and rather cheap; it has nice rooms, which are in separated bungalow few meters away from the construction hosting the reception, kitchen and restaurant. |The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and is reasonably priced: the menu is not extensive but the food is fresh and tasty and nearly always some Cretan specialities are available. |WiFi did not work well in my room, but the connection was strong in the restaurant. The owners are kind and especially Ms. Maria Bikogiannaki has very friendly ways when interacting with customers.|Overall I think Metochi Gavdos is a good option to stay in Gavdos, but having said that, there are some provisos to consider:|- as said above, the accommodation is good but essential - It is not to be chosen if you look for a relatively high level of comfort and services (if this is the case, you should also assess whether Gavdos island fits you, as you will not find here the same facilities and option available in other go-to Greek islands);|- Metochi is at some distance from the closest beach and the harbour; without a car, you have to walk to go to the various points of interests of the island and go back to Metochi; that was not a problem for me, as I am a hiker and like to walk, but if walking in a rural, natural setting does not suit you, you will need a car (I was told it is possible to rent one in the island), as the local bus stops at Metochi rather infrequently;|- if you drive a car, be careful when going through the dirt road giving access to Metochi, as it is a little bit shabby and with several stones on the road surface;|- again as said above, the owners are kind and pretty helpful but of course when liaising with the customers their approach is not and cannot be the same as the staff of the Waldorf Astoria in New York (then again, this remark more or less applies to anyone offering touristic services at Gavdos): e.g., nobody follows tight schedules and it may be that under some circumstances you may have to wait long time before eating (even if - barring a couple of times - when I was in Metochi the food I had ordered always arrived rather quickly).||I was fine at Metochi and advise this accommodation to anyone who is ready to stay in a laid-back, beautiful island which offers unsophisticated,...

Actually I was Metoxi regular customer since 2016. The place is nice and calm comparing to the other spots in Gavdos, that's why I liked to stay there. ||This time it was terribly hot. The water was boiling even at the toilet cistern. For some reasons Metoxi kept the water pipes outside and when it's +40 it wasn't possible to take a shower these days. ||||We got a nice room, and there was a water at the bathroom floor. As a regular customer I decided not to disturb the super busy owners (yeah, it's a high season, baby) with my complains. A water at the bathroom floor - it's not a big deal. Then I realized that the toilet cistern didn't function properly. Water went to the floor partly. Again - not a big deal. I think that extremely hot degrees damaged a cheap plastic of a cistern. Anyways... next day we moved and I warned the owner about it. ||In a 5 minutes she came back and told us that we broke the toilet tank... Well, we said we didn't, but we could help to repair it... In few hours I got pictures from Maria and a text that we also broke the toilet... They demanded me to pay 95 euros for that. For something that I never did. I paid and left this place for ever :) ||In 2 weeks we checked if they changed the toilet and a tank and the new customers could enjoyed it. BUT NO! I wonder how much money they collected telling people that they broke the toilet :))))) What a smart way to cheat the relaxed voyagers...||||My advices: be careful when you arrive to Metoxi: ||1) examine all the room and make a list of damages (there will be a lot) ||2) show and confirm the list with the owners before you start living there||3) always ask for invoices and checks||||Good...

Gavdos is wild and if you like this kind of places you will always find a nice family here at Metoxi (Metochi). Thank you Eftichia for the delicious Cretan food you cooked for us each day. Thank you Stefanos for maintaining that piece of heaven where lot of nice people love to come back. And also many thanks for you, Maria, for your smile from early in the the morning till late night. Once again this year in May 2023, we need Gavdos and our friends from there and we visited them. Nothing extraordinary, just the same nice people, quiet place, meet there old friends, make new friendship with new ones, have awesome evenings there and lot of joy. We are counting the day when we will be back there. Thank you Stefanos, Eftichia and Maria for all your effort to maintain that piece of Heaven.
