I was placed her by the Greek authorities as a quarantine measure after testing positive for Covid19 at the end of a two week holiday. Greece was a “green” country and the UK Govt were allowing tourists to visit. The test was the one required to fly home. I was taken to the hotel by the Civil Authorities. The hotel was a bit run down and tired, but very clean and well run. We were not allowed to leave our rooms for a ten day period and I was there alone. I had a nice large balcony, twin beds, a fridge, bathroom and TV (not used). The staff communicated via email and telephone. They were extremely helpful and sympathetic. Food was delivered to the door and we had no human contact. The food was fine - traditional home cooked Greek meals such as stifado or gemisto. Nothing fancy. No gyros or souvaki, but this is a quarantine hotel, not a grill house for tourists, I was happy with the food. You could order from a local cafe or supermarket if you wanted to pay for something different or buy snacks etc. The bedding was a bit old fashioned, but clean. My room overlooked a stagnant swimming pool, but I could see the mountains and trees too, so it wasn’t too bad. I did my time and left after a negative test. One thing I would say - it was my choice to travel. I took the risk. Hardship is being in a bombed out building or losing family members in a disaster. Being stuck in an old fashioned hotel with basic needs all met is not that difficult! This hotel was paid for by the Greek Govt, including all the food. It’s not going to be luxury. In the UK you would be charged over £1000 for the same thing with dreadful food and no balcony. I was and am extremely grateful to...
Read moreNice little hotel situated in Gastouri. A bit far from the beaches so you really will need a car to get around. Only about 10 minutes from the Achilleion palace. There was a mix-up with our booking, (booked through hotels.com) although we had booking confirmation the Inn had no record so we were a bit apprehensive on arrival to be faced with this. But the manager Alice was really very good and helpful and she finally sorted the problem so we stayed. They only have one disabled room on the ground floor. Beware if it rains because the room becomes flooded! It happened twice in the week we were there and sandbags were quite regular outside the room. But the staff could not have been more helpful in mopping up, cleaning etc.||The hotel, its rooms and furniture are quite a bit dated and will soon have to be renovated to keep up with needs and we were told that they do have plans for this. Breakfast was sufficient and nice, coffee surprisingly good! All in all a nice place to stay. Oh yes, and the free Wifi...
