We have stayed at Filoxenia beginning of August 24. Our general perception is that the staff there is not happy and you have the feeling that you are bothering them. You initially get a disturbing feeling that something is wrong with your booking, as they keep looking between them and talking very serious in Greek while you don't understand but giving you false smiles at the same time. Very rude actually. Then you realise this will happen any time you go to the reception desk and it is a general attitude of the staff. Unexperience maybe?
Check-in was caothic, we had to wait for nearly 2 hours to have our rooms and even then the attitude of the reception team kind of accusative, although we arrived on due time to have our rooms ready.
One of the main issues is regarding the restaurant and food service. We cannot understand that if we pay for "half board" the basic beverage which is tap water is not included. In a country where in any restaurant you sit they offer you free water from the first second, this looks ridiculous from a 4 star hotel. It also seems weird that the kids have lunch included in the price and there is not a full board option for the parents: instead, while your children are esting you have a really expensive menu from the bar which makes you feel trapped. We called the reception area one day at 14.00 to let them know that we would be 10 minutes late for our kids lunch: nobody answered the phone although ringing several times. When we arrived (10 minutes late of lunch time) we struggled to get something for the kids, and not thanks to the reception team (they said that they couldn't do anything) but to a greek friend of us who talked directly to the restaurant staff. Apparently desk staff and restaurant stfaf don't communicate to each other. I was worried about the food having read several critical reviews, but it was ok, in terms of quantity and quality. Far from great, but not bad. Again, not at the standards of a 4 stars hotel.
The cleaning of the room is INEXISTANT: even the trash bags weren't replaced every day. And the bunk bed for our kids in our room was NEVER done: clean sheets were just deposited on top of the beds for us to make them every day (also: clean sheets every day for kids? Is it really necessary?).
Overall, this is far from a 4 star experience and the only thing that will remain memorable is the beauty of the garden and the ideal location beside the beautiful beach. I think something is wrong with the management of this place, and you can feel it not only trough the misunderstandings and lack of communication and coordination of the place but also as a general perception of false smiles and uptight attitude of most...
Read moreI recently arrived at Grecotel Filoxenia and I regret to say that my experience is far from satisfactory. From the moment I arrived, it is clear that this establishment has not kept up with the times.
Slow Check-In Process The first sign of trouble was the painfully slow check-in process. Despite having a prepaid reservation, I found myself waiting an inordinate amount of time to get to my room. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, which only added to the frustration.
Dated and Unappealing Decor Once I finally made it to my room, I was struck by how dated everything was. The furniture was old and mismatched, giving the room a disjointed and shabby appearance. The curtains were not only out of style but also visibly dirty, which was quite off-putting. The bathroom door to our room is so warped from water logging and does not close as the shower (over the bath) does not have a screen. The bathroom floor is saturated after a shower and is cause for a dangerous accident.
Poor Cleanliness Cleanliness was a major issue throughout my stay. The tiles in both the room, bathroom and hallways were grimy, and it was clear they hadn’t been properly cleaned. The bathroom facilities were particularly disgusting, with mold in the shower and a general sense of neglect.
Misleading Online Photos One of the most disappointing aspects of my stay is how misleading the hotel's online photos are. The website depicted a clean, modern, and inviting hotel, but the reality was the exact opposite. It felt like I was staying in a completely different place than what I had seen online.
Overpriced for the Quality Given the state of the hotel, the price was exorbitant. I felt like I was paying premium rates for a budget-level experience. It was clear that the cost far exceeded the quality and service provided.
Final Thoughts Overall, I would strongly advise against staying at Grecotel. The slow check-in process, outdated and mismatched furniture, dirty curtains and tiles, disgusting bathroom facilities, and misleading photos all contribute to a deeply disappointing experience. There are certainly better options available at this price point. Save your money and...
Read moreI stayed at the hotel a few years ago and found the staff to be a bit rude, but the place was so aesthetically nice that I didn’t think much of it, and also I stayed there for sentimental reasons (this is where I grew up on the beach as a kid in the 90s and 00s and where my parents met).
I returned a few years later to get some drink and food at the beach but could not get the attention of the staff on the beach chair section, so I went up to the bar and sat to order near the pool. The place was half empty and not crowded at all. I was told I could not order because I did not have a room, I asked if I could then sit at the beach and order on the beach chairs, and I was told by the server that I have to be a guest to even eat or drink at the chairs on the beach. I told the server that I think that that is illegal and for her to bring the manager. The manager, who told me his name is Niko, came and told me, sort of rudely, “what do you need” and then when I asked for a business card he said “I don’t have to give you that” and that I should “go to the reception for a business card.”
My fiancé asked me where we should have the reception for our wedding, and to decide this summer, and I wanted it to be filoxenia (where again my parents met, and where I spent the most holidays as a kid) but this exchange was so off putting that we’ll just do the reception at Kastraki or elite.
I understand the pool section being for guests only, I frankly would do the same if I was the owner, but at least put up a sign saying that so people don’t sit down and get comfortable, because it is very insulting for someone to have to pack up and leave (especially when the place is almost empty) when they didn’t know that rule (again because they’re no sign)
This is not how people should be treated. Especially when they are wanting to spend a...
