Polgar Villas Corfu — Hotel in Municipality of Northern Corfu

We’ve just returned from a 10-day stay at Renata and Nikos’s Polgar Villas. We booked back in March as we loved the pictures but I was always baffled by how few reviews I could find, so was a bit nervous. Now I’d like to fix that by offering our feedback.

The villa is easily one of the best we’ve stayed in (and over years we’ve stayed in quite a few). Where to start… It’s new. Everything works: great showers, excellently equipped kitchen, big clean fridge and freezer, strong AC in every room, clean big pool - more on that later, sunbeds like you won’t find on any of the nearby beaches, clean new (ie not washed-out) towels, excellent bed linen, strong wifi in and out, smart TV where all streaming services worked (don’t forget to log out when you leave!)… This place got us thinking about wouldn’t it be nice to have a holiday home like this?… There was nothing that was missing here.

The view is just incredible! The back terrace overlooks an olive grove with mountains behind and sea in the distance. No photo will ever do justice to it. Beautiful, picture-perfect landscape!

The pool. This was my biggest reservation as on the photos it looked a bit small-ish. It turned out to be perfect size: c.1.6m in depth, c.5 strokes in length and did I mention the view?… Kids loved it! And so did we :)

When we come back to Corfu, this will be the first villa we’ll check for availability. Thank you, Renata and Nikos!

A few words on surrounding area. There are three beaches within 5-10mins drive: Agios Stefanos. We went once. Not our cup of tea: every restaurant had full English breakfast on the menu. A bit like Margate. You hear mostly English everywhere. Arillas - nice sandy beach with lots of restaurants. Went a few times but found it a bit too shallow for our liking - have to wade out for a long while before it gets deep enough to swim. Good for small kids though. Agios Georgios - same as Arillas but gets deep quite quickly. We preferred that to the other two.

Restaurants - all a bit the same in terms of menus and price range. Our favourites were (Google them): Louvros cafe - simple, inexpensive and well-executed breakfast, excellent coffee and a selection of 4-5 types of pastries. All delicious. Apple pie/cake was amazing. Corfu Carne supermarket had everything we needed food & drink-wise. There wasn’t a day when we didn’t go there :) The Night Owl restaurant run by New Yorker Linda and her husband. We ordered takeaway nearly every day. We called in, ordered and then I went to collect it. About 5min drive. This is a great example of good honest Greek cooking. Not expensive and huge portions. We loved their houmous and tzatziki and kids had chicken souvlaki every time. Two restaurants in Afionas (parking is tricky): Luuma and Anemos. Both offer a modern twist on the usual Corfu dishes. We came back to Anemos just for the squid-ink risotto. It was divine! At Luuma we tried most dishes (there are not a lot of dishes on the menu) and all of them were great. Especially seafood penne :)

It’s been a memorable holiday, we had a great time and...

Eine sehr schöne Villa, die zu Anfang wirklich sauber war. Zum Start hatten uns die Gastgeber ein wenig Obst bereit gestellt sowie eine Flasche Wasser. Was wirklich nett war und wir uns dafür auch bedanken wollen. Negativ fanden wir allerdings, dass in 10 Tagen Aufenthalt nicht einmal geputzt wurde. Nach 5 Tagen kamen sie einmal zum Betten wechseln und Handtücher wechseln, es wurde lediglich gekehrt (mehr nicht). Leider wurde auch keine Pool Reinigung gemacht. Ich schrieb die Besitzer also an und bat um eine Reinigung, darauf kamen diese unmittelbar, was positiv war.Der Pool wurde mit Hilfe eines Roboter gereinigt, dieser kommt natürlich nicht an die Kanten vom Pool. Ich konnte nicht nachvollziehen wieso dies nicht selbstverständlich gemacht wurde alle paar Tage um einen sauberen Pool zu gewährleisten. Der Pool war komplett verdreckt, es bildete sich ein grüner Schlier am Rand, der Boden war rutschig und voller Fliegen. Also wirklich sehr unangenehm. Das 2 mal kontaktierte mich die Gastgeberin selber und fragte ob wir eine Pool Reinigung möchten. Meiner Meinung nach müsste so etwas selbstverständlich sein. Klopapier wurde nicht aufgefüllt, wir fragten denn Inhaber danach aber dieser scheint es vergessen zu haben und noch einmal fragen war uns dann doch unangenehm. Ich muss erwähnen das es sicherlich Menschen gibt die kein Problem damit haben alles zu verlangen. Es gibt jedoch auch Menschen die dies nicht so gerne machen. Ich empfand es als sehr unangenehm, somit kauften wir das Toilettenpapier einfach selber. Man muss betonen das wir 400 € die Nacht bezahlt haben für diese Villa. Selbst in den günstigsten Apartments in Griechenland findet regelmäßig eine Reinigung statt mit Ankündigung und bislang hatten wir noch nie die Erfahrung gemacht das eine Villa ohne Reinigung für den Preis angeboten wird und wir besuchen wirklich jedes Jahr verschiedene Villen in ganz Griechenland. 10 Tage ohne Reinigung empfand ich als absolut nicht angemeßen. Nach 6 Tagen war es wirklich dreckig bei uns und wir versuchten eigenständig zu putzen allerdings wollten wir jetzt nicht zusätzlich noch Geld für Reinigungsmittel ausgeben. Wer also kein Problem damit hat, dass es keine Reinigung gibt und gerne selber Putzen möchte ist hier sicherlich gut aufgehoben. Allerdings würde ich die Villa aufgrund des Preis-Leistungsverhätnisses nicht noch...

✨ Schitterend verblijf op Corfu – absolute aanrader! ✨

Wat een geweldige ervaring! De villa is werkelijk schitterend, gelegen op een eigen afgesloten terrein waar stilte en rust met hoofdletters geschreven staan. Het adembenemende uitzicht over de bergen én de zee is elke dag opnieuw een cadeautje. Vanuit het royale privézwembad kijk je uit over dit prachtige panorama, terwijl je alleen de vogels hoort fluiten en de krekels hoort tjirpen.

De villa zelf is ruim, brandschoon en van alle gemakken voorzien: airco’s in elke kamer, een complete keuken met alles wat je nodig hebt (incl. vaatwasmachine, wasmachine, ruim servies en glaswerk), smart-tv’s (zelfs in de slaapkamers), goede wifi, voldoende handdoeken, föhn, douchegel en shampoo. Alles straalt comfort en zorg uit.

De host verdient een aparte vermelding: super vriendelijk, altijd discreet aanwezig (je merkt hem bijna niet op), maar met Service in hoofdletters. Hij vraagt regelmatig of alles naar wens is en bood na drie dagen zelfs spontaan een verschoning van het bed aan. Het zwembad wordt keurig schoongehouden en gevuld met fris water. De privacy is hier absoluut gegarandeerd: je ziet de andere villa niet en hebt echt je eigen paradijs.

De ligging is ook ideaal: op loopafstand van een lokale supermarkt voor de eerste benodigdheden en slechts 7 minuten rijden naar een prachtige beach met volop restaurantjes, winkeltjes en souvenirshops.

🔹 Verbeterpuntjes? Het voelt als spijkers op laag water zoeken: de gordijnen in de slaapkamers zijn wat kort, waardoor de kamers niet volledig te verduisteren zijn. En het niet doorspoelen van toiletpapier is even wennen – maar dat geldt voor heel Corfu.

Het eiland zelf is adembenemend mooi. De infrastructuur is typisch Grieks en moet je gewoon ervaren, maar dat hoort erbij.

Kortom: een fantastische villa, een fantastische host en een fantastische vakantie. De vijf sterren zijn meer dan...
