First of all, I am not one for writing reviews and complaining. I feel obliged to review due to the following events that we experienced during our stay. Beware, this will be a long review however brutally honest.
Myself and my dad arrived later at night than expected, however the Reception staff were welcoming and polite at the time of arrival. We went into the lift and were greeted with a dated room, with very little storage that was usable, as the drawers were broken. There was a double bed in the room which could not be separated and the patio door was unable to be shut and locked. Majority of the lights were not working either.
The bathroom again, extremely dated with tiles placed over older tiles to make the bathroom look newer. However, the baths enamel had gone and rusted through, so much that I nor my dad was able to comfortably use.
We went down to complain about this, as we didn't feel comfortable and the receptionist was kind enough to reallocate another room. It was a better room, however still lacked furniture and storage that was usable. Throughout our stay, the air con unit was leaking, leaving the patio floor soaked and unsafe to be on which was a shame as the views are spectacular.
The bar area was more modern, however never cleaned. The floors were covered in debris and the tables never wiped over. However the main issue is that we booked this hotel for the all inclusive. For 4 days, there was no basic alcohol such as Vodka, Jack Daniels or Malibu. The only alcohol that was available was the ones that weren't under the all inclusive, therefore you would have to pay for them. Due to the way we were spoken to at the bar, we yet again complained to the reception that it was ridiculous that there wasn't any other alcohol and they are displaying empty bottles of alcohol that they didn't have. She said that we could have Bacardi (that was costable) under the all inclusive as there wasn't anything else we could drink.
The pool area was never cleaned and there was never a lifeguard in sight. The No Life Guard sign was always up. The children's pool was green and the pool was freezing cold. Colder than the sea. However the beach, was not as described either. The beach was often busier than the pool due to the above, and was advertised as a sandy beach. THIS IS NOT A SANDY BEACH! You will need sea shoes as soon as you go onto the beach, as is filled with rocks and broken up stones. The beach was covered with rubbish (cigarettes ends) and many sunbeds broken.
Please be aware that the hotel is not in Athens and is around a 1hr20 minute drive from the Airport. The shop on site doesn't have much stock of anything needed in emergencies, and there wasn't even any sun cream in it! Had to get a taxi to the nearest village which was a 5 minute drive and cost 10 Euros. The taxi was ordered by the hotel and the driver dropped us off and came back to collect us, however we waved at him and were about to get into the car and he drove off!! 10 minutes later he then came back after we thought we were stranded. I understand this isn't necessarily the hotels fault however if this is who they use as a taxi company, then please be aware.
The staff throughout the holiday were not helpful especially when I asked if they could contact our transfers and confirm the date and time. She refused to talk to them and said "well they can speak French" and handed the phone over to me after I said I wouldn't be able to understand. She then said "well where are you from then?" and I said I was English and as I was speaking to the transfers, she went to spoke to another employee and was discussing was I was asking for to them in what didn't sound like a very nice way.
The food was often cold. There are no labels on the food so you have no clue of what you are eating so I wouldn't recommend to someone with allergens. Breakfast was quite boring.
The staff need training and the hotel needs overall updating....
Read moreSave your money and don't book this hotel. We recently spent a week here. We reserved 4 rooms for 3 couples, 1 single person, and 2 children. We were not expecting luxury or anything close to it when we arrived, but having read previous reviews and seen the advertising photographs, we were expecting somewhere comfortable, clean, and safe. We were in for a rude awakening. First and foremost, the rooms were infested with mould, with wires strewn about and broken light boards, decaying doors, leaking showers, damaged sinks and toilets, broken balcony doors, and so on (...). For evidence, please see the images attached to this review. Before we had even departed, they blatantly painted over the mould. We definitely objected since we felt not only misled, but also unsafe in rooms with active hazards such as plugs hanging out of the walls. Please keep in mind that we have two children in our group. The staff's response to our complaint was, quite frankly, the most appalling customer service I have ever experienced. The receptionist, a blonde with curly hair, proceeded with sarcastic remarks that were not at all helpful. We expressed our dissatisfaction directly, and the same employee informed us she couldn't do anything because it wasn't her responsibility. We ought to have realised then that we were dealing with really negligent individuals. Another employee, a gray-haired man wearing glasses, approached and inquired about the situation. With a disgusting attitude and openly mocking us, he went a step further to demonstrate his lack of managerial and people skills by raising his voice and threatening to assault a member of our party. While we discussed the numerous issues we had, the two employees followed us to our rooms. They kept laughing and demonstrating their bad customer service skills. Please keep in mind that I requested such employees for their names, but they refused, hence why I have described their looks above. After witnessing all of the rooms in terrible condition, we were told that we would be transferred rooms the next day since the hotel was "completely booked." Two of the rooms to which we were relocated were the ones depicted in the advertisements. The structure of the hotel makes it evident that these 2 rooms were essentially display rooms meant to trick potential customers into reserving this shockingly bad excuse of a "3-star hotel". The other 2 rooms remained old and in poor condition. Furthermore, the pool is mouldy and very cold. The children's pool looked unsanitary, with a yellow greenish colour that persisted throughout our whole stay. Our children were safer in the sea. The cuisine is acceptable but lacks variety. The ice cream freezers were infested with dead flies that persisted for the duration of our stay, even after the matter was brought to the attention of the workers. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you book this hotel, you should expect to have no privacy. The cleaning staff stormed through our room twice (in separate rooms), despite our very obvious and vocal requests for them not to do so while we were there. At 9a.m., they opened the door and stood there staring at us. It was absurd. Overall, don't stay here. The service is dreadful, the employees are the rudest we've ever encountered, the facilities are terrible, and the hotel is poorly located, with a nearby nightclub blasting music until 5a.m. most nights and nothing else in close vicinity. The beach is rocky and small, and even the people staying at the hotel there are sketchy; we couldn't leave any goods unattended (not even flip-flops!!! they tried to steal them more than once throughout our visit). Also, please be aware that this hotel is NOT located in Athens. The only place to hire a vehicle is at the airport, which is one hour and thirty minutes' drive...
Read moreI cannot say enough wonderful things about my stay at Calamos Beach Hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to ensure every detail of my visit was perfect. Their warmth and hospitality truly set the tone for a memorable experience.
The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful location, right by the sea, with stunning views that made every morning feel like a postcard. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed, blending comfort with a relaxed, coastal charm. I particularly appreciated the comfortable beds, modern amenities, and the peaceful atmosphere that made it easy to unwind.
The breakfast and dining options were excellent, offering a delicious variety of fresh and local foods. It was always a pleasure to start the day with such a well-prepared meal overlooking the water. The pool area and beachfront access were equally impressive — perfect spots to relax, soak up the sun, or enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear waters.
What really makes Calamos Beach Hotel stand out, though, is the personal touch. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, always ready with a smile, local recommendations, or assistance with anything I needed. It felt less like a typical hotel stay and more like being welcomed into a home away from home.
If you are looking for a place that combines comfort, great service, and breathtaking surroundings, Calamos Beach Hotel is an absolute gem. I will definitely be returning and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a relaxing and unforgettable getaway.
