Just spent the week here with my 4 children! I cannot put into words the beauty, splendour and hospitality here! On arrival we were greeted by Hara and Andreas, we felt immediately at ease. We were taken to our room. We had the family room on the ground floor with a garden view. The room is very spacious with a balcony on each bedroom as well as one outside the main door. The rooms are equipped for self catering with kettle, microwave and a 2 ring hob. I loved that there was a sponge and washing up liquid and a tea towel ready for us as well as 2 bottles of water in the fridge! The kids were keen to get in the pool so we headed straight there, it was 5.30pm. All the guests were really cheery and friendly and the majority of them were returning customers, which speaks volumes! The pool was exceptionally clean, as was the entire outdoor area. The bar was well stocked and the prices very reasonable, €4 for a local beer, cocktails around €8 and soft drinks €3 . There was also an option of a range of hot drinks and iced coffees, milkshakes and smoothies. The food was so good that I barely self catered and there wasn’t a dish on the menu that wasn’t enjoyed by myself or my fussy children. The area around the pool is modern but didn’t lose its authenticity with comfy sun loungers and beautiful flowers all around. Just at the end of the pool you can walk off into the beach. The beach is a little grassy but please don’t be put off, there is seaweed but you can still walk into the warm clear waters and go out quite some distance because the water is shallow. The views from the pool and the beach are stunning, you can see the mainland across the water, a beautiful setting for a beautiful property. The family here make you feel much more than welcome, they are experts in hospitality and are what makes the sunrise that extra bit special!! This place is a GEM. The location is between lefkimmi and kavos, I don’t drive and had children aged 16 down to 7 with me and I found getting about very easy. There’s a supermarket 10 minutes walk away although it’s not great for food shopping, you can go to Lidl, about 5/10 minutes drive, one of the guests had a hire car and took me there. Kavos is a 30 minute walk with children along the road and is lovely and quiet in the day. We paid €7 for a sun lounger, the water is clear there, the sand is lovely and there are lots of shops, bars, restaurants here as well as water sports and an inflatable water park for the children. In the opposite direction, you can walk from the sunrise to Lefkimmi port, about 10 minutes where you can arrange boat trips and even get the ferry to mainland Greece. There’s a path at the back of the port and you can follow this, it takes you along the coast all the way to Bouka beach and from there you can walk into lefkimmi, this is further than Kavos but we walked the entire way in the shallow water of the sea, a beautiful experience. The sunrise take food orders until around 9.30 in the evening and the atmosphere is really calm and chilled, there is plenty of seating where you can relax inside or outside and a pool table. There are mosquitos in the evening so make sure you take repellent. The whole place is clean and tidy. My room was cleaned every single day and fresh bedding and towels provided when needed, the toilet roll was kept topped up. We had a problem with our shower and the owners Ann and her husband were straight round to fix it for us. The name of these apartments is the sunrise and you MUST go to watch it. If you go to the beach you can watch the sun come up from behind the mountains on the mainland, it’s a spectacular sight, absolutely beautiful! |The fact that the guests return year after year speaks for itself, I will return with my children next year without a doubt, for 2 weeks this time. As a mum on her own with children, feeling safe and looked after is a massive priority and I was genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness and care we received from all the staff, Ann and her husband but most of all lovely lovely Hara and Andreas. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them. Thank you to the Sunrise, see you...
Read moreWe have just been here for 2 weeks and well… what can I say, the views was absolutely spectacular. I woke the morning after we got there, I went out onto my balcony and the view took my breath away, I have never seen anything so beautiful in my life. The pool bar and pool area was kept extremely clean and gave a lovely vibe. Andreas is a lovely guy and loves a good bit of banter, the pool is shut by 8pm and they do what they need to do ready for the next day. The food I had was tasty, very clean and good quality. Everyday there was a maid that came in and cleaned the apartment except for Sunday, that’s her day off. I met some absolute amazing people while I was there which made my holiday. I was there with my mates and their family and all in all it was relatively a good holiday, but… kavos itself is about a 30 minute walk or a taxi which will cost you between 10-20€ each way depending how far into Kavos you go, best to ring and get dropped off at the taxi station and walk the rest and vice versa, the rooms are very basic, 2 countertop hobs, a microwave, fridge, cutlery for how any beds are in the rooms, 1 frying pan and 1 pasta pan, my room and my mates next door did have tv’s but if you have a fire stick take it with you, SIM card with unlimited data is 20€ for 30 days at nikos supermarket. The aircon costs 50€ for 7 days, my mates room had 2 rooms so had double aircon at 50€ each for the week, in my room next door, it wasn’t the best, both rooms leaked water onto the balcony that bad you could go swimming, I complained about it and by the end of the day a engineer had been out and cleaned the filters and it worked better but still leaked badly. We was told that your not aloud your own drinks, bottled water or snacks around the pool/bar but started noticing that others was without being told not to, after the 3rd night ants started presenting themselves over the counter tops of mine and my mate apartments. The bbq was supposed to be lit every Friday but the 2 weeks we was there it was never started. Some of the staff seemed rather clicky, and didn’t seem interested in making us feel welcome and we felt out of place to the point we started talking about booking the rest of our holiday somewhere else, we spent most of the day in the apartment and a few hours around the pool for the kids then went out in the evenings. To be honest I feel father gutted as the reviews we had seen on this place seemed outstanding and we thought that we had found a hidden gem, but it didn’t seem to turn out that way and if this was a better experience we probably would have gone back but we won’t be back which is a big shame. We have booked again for September for 5 days in aspro Kavos where we have stayed before hoping to try and...
Read moreHospitality- I can't stress enough how lovely the staff are. So welcoming and friendly. It feels as though they can't do enough for you. My family and I were affectionately known as the pineapple family which we loved because of the amount of pineapple juice we consumed. Even when the staff were busy, my daughter loved talking with Hara, and she always made time for her. The other staff member Andreas would organise things for us outside of the complex when we wanted it. Both are just extremely friendly and easily approachable for needs or queries that you might have.
Apartments- Some people call them very basic and outdated. I honestly don't know what that means when it's just a place to rest your head. They've got a toilet, shower, sink, tv, hob, microwave, beds etc. All your essential needs. Most importantly, they're extremely clean.
Food and drink- A menu with a combination of traditional Greek food and standard. I'll admit that it doesn't take much to make me happy when foods involved, but the food is unbelievable! Not only tasty, but also decent portions. My compliments to the chef. With the drinks you will find your standard bottles of soft drinks and alcoholic. I'm not a big drinker, but the cocktails that are served were very nice.
Pool- Opens at 9am, closes at 8pm for maintenance. Clean, decent size, impossible to drown in (so great for the kids). If you feel 8pm is too early to be closed then there's the private area of the beach just at the bottom of the complex with calm warm water and a few fish that swim around you. Just to add about the pool, you will most likely have the majority of the pool to yourself anyway. Unless there's a large quantity of children there at that time.
Location- Hidden away in a quiet area, you would not know it even existed. There are convenience stores in either direction which are about a 10 minute walk. However, if you do walk then do not take young kids with you. The road can be dangerous with cars as there is no pavement.
It all depends what you want on a holiday. For a quiet, affordable getaway with great food and friendly staff, then you've got to...
