My Greek family and I went to this lovely apartment hotel during Christmas 2014. We were hoping for snow and to make use of the nearby Ostrakina ski centre but unfortunately we were disappointed as the weather was not cold enough. We were not disappointed though with the Ostra Menalon Luxury Suites. The service was very friendly and the live-in caretaker and his family couldn't be more helpful. They even lent me a mobile phone charger when I realised I had not brought the correct plug attachment with me (UK plugs do not work in the continent). We had an unlimited supply of wood for the fireplace, which made our visit more picturesque. The apartments were stocked with all mod cons, including free wifi, jacuzzi in the bath and lots of table games and cards. Every night we would play the next day's meals in cards! ||And as for the view, waking up to face the forested mountain 1200m above sea level was the most relaxing thing I have experienced in a long while. It was so relaxing I was even prompted to have a yoga session. ||The area also benefits from lots of well signed mountain paths of varying degrees of difficulty. The infamous E4 European long distance pathhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E4_European_long_distance_path passes metres away from the hotel. As we couldn't ski we walked the forests and had a great time. ||For those of you who are looking for an alternative to the hugely commercial Alps, it'd say take a plunge and...
Read moreOur stay was okay, but not more than that. The staff were extremely kind, helpful, and accommodating, truly the highlight of our stay. They did everything they could to assist us and were always pleasant and welcoming.
However, the hotel itself is not luxury in any sense, despite how it’s described. We had serious issues with hot water, several evenings we couldn’t shower because there was no hot water, and it was very cold outside.
The laundry service mentioned online wasn’t clearly available, and only thanks to the staff’s goodwill we managed to use it. The “jacuzzi” is not really a jacuzzi but a small bathtub with bubbles, and even that didn’t have hot water, so it wasn’t usable.
The bed was extremely hard, with only one pillow, and not very comfortable. The “included breakfast” is just a few basic items in the fridge, not an actual breakfast, so guests should be aware they’ll need to make their on food. We ended up buying groceries anyway.
Also, the sauna isn’t readily available; we found out only after asking that it costs an extra €20 per person.
The view is wonderful and the location is excellent, but overall the hotel feels quite average and somewhat...
Read moreI really wanted to rate this place higher, but unfotunately there were too many issues that cannot be ignored - first and most important in the evening and nights we didn't have hot water in the showers. The advertised / promised Jaccuzi is actually a small bath (and good luck again with the hot water) and for the sauna they demanded extra 20 Euro per person. The rooms are very nice but the place needs to decide if it wants to be a hotel or an airbnb - the breakfast groceries delivered to the room are extremly basic and there is little to no kitchen equipment in the room to make food. no real knife or cutting board, no bowls, no real size pots or pans... we managed to wing it, but in a place like this I expect more. On the plus side - the location is quite good, close to many trails and to the cute village of Levidi, and the staff are really...
