If you are looking for a beachfront hotel on a budget away from the hustle and bustle of resorts full of English tourists for some relaxation and sun bathing/ sea swimming and maybe take in some sights nearby with a hire car this place is ideal for you. But be under no illusions here. This place is 25 minutes away from the nearest international resort town by car. It is quiet and there are only a couple of local taverna's nearby within walking vicinity that are geared up more for Greek holiday makers than foreigners. The hotel only has 20 rooms on 2 floors but all rooms have sea views that look across to the Greek Island of Lefkada. The rooms aren't equipped with kettles, room safes or hair dryers but will be supplied on request. There is a nice walk in shower in the bathroom that does take a little while for the water to get hot but it does after a couple of minutes. Breakfast is a rather basic affair. Coffee, water and orange juice are the only drinks available. Good wise it's oats, youghurt, honey, bread to toast or Greek style crusty bread with butter and 2 very nice local preserves. There is sliced ham and cheese available and either apple pastries or cut up pieces of omelette and that's about it really. If you are ok with that you won't starve. If you want tea ensure you bring teabags with you as the nearest mini market is about a 15 minutes walk away up the hill to the top of the village. The hotel bar doesn't do daytime food so lunch and dinner will have to be either at the local tavernas or what ever pick up from the mini market in your room. Or further afield if you have a hire car. Also the bar doesn't stay open much beyond 8pm and there is no evening entertainment bar what you make of your own. The family that run the hotel are very nice people. Dmitri that runs the pool bar speaks the most English. Vasilliki the lady who owns the place and does breakfast speaks hardly any English at all so Google translate on your phone is essential to communicate. We made friends with her and got Greek Coffee with our breakfast with biscuits because we made time for her during our stay. The big pool is quite deep throughout with no shallow end as such but there is a smaller pool next to it a bit more shallow. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and parted as friends with the family when we left the hotel to come home. It was ideal for us as a base for all the places we wanted to see with the hire car being a lot closer to everything and usually got back around 4pm for a few hours beach or pool time to cool down. A nice breeze comes in off the sea there when every where else we visited was stifling hot. Very welcome after a day of exploring. If the hotel upped its game by providing safes, hair dryers and kettles in all rooms as standard and offered a little more on the breakfast selection along with a lunch option at the hotel bar or the dining area where breakfast is taken this place could very easily upgrade itself to 4 stars due to it's beach location. Maybe slightly thicker mattresses on the beds. It is worth it's 3 star rating for it's size. Only a 30 minute non stop transfer from the airport with no intermediate stops before you get there a bonus. And last to be picked up on the return leg. We were the only guests in the place for about 4 days because although we arrived there on 2nd June the season doesn't really start there until around the 15th June. The only other foreign guests to turn up during our stay were either German or Danish. Any others are Greek. There is a fridge in the room so if you want a drink of an evening without having to use a local taverna/ beach bar pop a couple in the fridge. We asked for a safe in our room and by the evening Dmitri came with a brand new one and fitted it in for us. They will go the extra mile for you if asked politely. Same with the kettle and hair dryer. They even provided milk for us to put in our evening cuppa and my other half s nightcap lol. If you want a range of evening continental cuisine and bars this place may definitely...
Read moreMixed feelings on this hotel. The location is amazing, beach views from every room. It is quiet, insomuch as there are never any problems getting a sun bed either around the pool or on the beach. Rooms are clean and spacious.||That said... I'm not sure I fully get the praise for the welcomingness of the staff, compared to resorts on Greek islands we have visited, the hotel staff are so laid back it appears like they're not particularly bothered or interested in anything.|There's not much of a greeting when you arrive, a kettle, and hairdryer were supposed to be in every room, which they weren't, and it seemed like an imposition for the staff when asked for one. The staff aren't unfriendly but they seem a little bewildered by non-Greek guests.||The bed (in our room) was twice as hard as the wooden sun beds (without the covers) and with stray dogs barking and running around the grounds on some nights I wouldn't say sleep quality is amazing. Fortunately the weather was wonderful but the bedcover consists of a single sheet which is like sleeping under a table cloth!||Food at the bar during the day is pretty limited - in fact the menus in all the restaurants seem to be limited on most items. The continental breakfast is also pretty basic and there seems less tables than rooms in the hotel.||This hotel (which I believe is pretty new) and others in Kastrosikia seem to cater for Greek holiday makers, who own or hire cars - as getting anywhere other than the hotel grounds, the strip of beach (which is lovely) and a handful of beach bars is expensive and/or impossible. There is one shop, in the town (that we found) which is up a very steep hill!||On the whole we enjoyed our week, made some nice friends, the weather was great and it's very chilled - but be prepared as this is going to be a quiet holiday should you wish to visit, and you will be pretty much stuck in the hotel complex. I can only hope coming during peak season you will have more food selection and a slightly more attentive service.||I'm not one of those negative reviewers who take pleasure in finding faults with things and I sincerely hope this hotel improves over time.||Oh, and don't forget to put aside €10 per night for the tourist tax when you check out, it might have been a good idea to flag this when you check in, or even have a sign on the reception desk as this is a bit of a shock if funds are low at the end of...
Read moreI'm going to start this review by saying the location of this hotel is fantastic right on the beach and close to several Taverna's.its very quiet and totally relaxing, the rooms are spacious and cleaned regularly. That's the good stuff mentioned, it's a 25 minute walk to the nearest mini- market. Breakfast is continental very basic as in a chopped up omelette, fruit, ham & cheese toasties, yogurt & fruit, I have read that Dimitri is a great guy .. not with us he wasn't we never saw him and when we did he was rude as was his mother and the 2 girls that seemed to work there ! The day we arrived (we were there from the 21st-28th September) the pool side bar was open but it closed that day and didn't reopen again so we couldn't get a drink, snack nothing ... Then on the Wednesday morning he decided to clean the pool so he dropped an automated pool cleaning machine in which was running untill Thursday night it just made the pool worse, unusable through fear of getting poorly ... I contacted the on call TUI rep Anastasia who was absolutely brilliant she contacted the hotel and was told if they want a drink there's bar down the street ...we didn't book to stay there we booked with to stay here, He really couldn't care less !!! Ok dealt with that ..then he started packing up the hotel around us ..tractor on the beach taking the parasols and loungers away, then he started on the poolside parasols and loungers ..oh yeah left 6 out for the six guests he had left ... We have never been made to feel so unwelcome and a total inconvenience to the owners, and then the water supply to the poolside toilets was cut off ..so if you used the toilet you couldn't flush it or was your hands .. shocking!! They also seemed very happy to let 4 dogs and several cats wander all around the hotel including the dinning room !! On a happier note Pargá is worth a trip about 70€ each way in a taxi from the hotel lots of bars tavernas, check out Petrose taverna excellent, Perveza is also very nice but cheaper approx €50 each way ... We did have a lovely, very relaxing holiday, (once out the hotel) it's a shame the staff at the Ocean Resort are so...
