Protessilaos Hotel — Hotel in Volos Municipality

I have to put a disclaimer on my review because I stayed here a year ago and it may have changed since then...||This was the best choice in the area and it was just AWFUL!! the hotel was extremely old and runned down. Everything in the place was dusty... I would NEVER in my life stay there again. When we was shown to our room it was disgusting... the carpet looked like it was never vaccuumed, the patio chairs were flimsy and dirty, the curtains were beige though they were originally white. I accidentally hit the lamp shade over the bed and a whole bunch of dust fell on my head and face... i don't think the maids ever cleaned that room... if they did they need some more training on how to clean. It was so bad that as soon as we saw our room i was on the internet trying to find another place to stay and see how we could get there... the first day was miserable as we felt we were stuck with no options... but we made do by walking down the beach and trying to stay out of that dirty filthy room as much as possible. There is a grocery store close by so i went and bought some cleaning supplies and did some minor cleaning. the shower was so nasty and caked with scum... i took my nail and it came off easily... disgusting! The bed was comfortable... though the sheet was on the bed was not made for the bed because if we rolled over on the bed the whole sheet came off of the bed... and who wants to touch that nasty mattress. Oh and the breakfast was another thing... there were flies feasing on the food before you even get there... there was this orange juice bowl that they kept stirring when it would settle... but i looked in the liquid catch tray and there was mold in it... the eggs looked old and rubbery... the breakfast area was dusty just like the room.||||But the only positive part of our nightmare was the owner's son... he was very helpful with helping us find excursions and great restaurants. The first night he took us to this really nice seafood restaurant to the right of the hotel and it was absolutely amazing!! we ate there every chance we could! I absolutely recommend the grilled monk fish.. you have to tell them grilled because this fish they usually fry it... which is not good. the owner's son helped us find a very affordable day cruise and it went to 3 islands! it was a great time and we got ALOT of good pictures. ||||I told the owner's son about the state of our room on our way to the airport and he did not seem very happy with me. I suggested perhaps the maids could change the bag in the vaccuum and clean the room instead of just peeking in the room to ensure the furniture is still there... well... that may have been a bit rude... but the maids should have been fired immediately by the state of that room... i mean really. so if you stay here... you are warned... i understand when you are on vacation some people don't stay in their room... but i like to stay in a nice clean room to relax and chill out on the patio and to think this was the best in the area at the time was just sad DON'T STAY HERE!! the owner's son is very nice and speaks amazing english and he is very personable... but that is not enough to stay in a hotel that is so disgusting... i'm writing this review because my conscious got the best of me... i chose this hotel based on the "nice" reviews it received... maybe because the owner's son is such an awesome person... the other reviewers felt bad to say something negative about this nasty hotel. Hotel is at the town center, 50 meters from the sea but this is the only positive thing about it. Built in 1975, most probbaly has not been upgraded in decades, it is totally shabby. Hygiene and cleaning standards are very low, no staff enough so the ones hired have to do almost everything, all day lond, which results in bad quality. Breakfast is very low quality and limited choice of artificial products. Dinner is served in another hotel, its not self service but the food is provided by the staff. There are not enough places if all tourists from both hotels to sit at one and the same time and one can never find a properly served table with clean tablecloth, cutleries, napkins and clean glasses. This so called 'restaurant' is also understuffed, and the boys serving are very impolite. The food is stingily provided and almost all the time you have to ask for everything, bread, water, dessert, which is normally watermelon of savoury, extremely small pieces if you are lucky to get it at all. In my opinion, the hotel owners think that mainly Eastern European clientelle does not deserve the quality of service as expected, they should be grateful that they have roof under their heads and that is more than enough. The town gets extremely noisy at night and all is easily heard in all the rooms. Also the beach is a disappointment, small pebbles, dirty and windy with bigger waves in the afternoon. In addition prices at the nearby tavernas are not reasonable for a small village like this, they even charge you for the water and bread, which they bring you as if a present. Nea Anhialos and Protessilaos hotel were a big disappointment...

I spent 7 nights there in July.The first room they gave us was uncleaned. After that we changed the room with another one, without sea view but less dirty. The air conditioner of the next room made terrible sounds and the door to the balcony was broken. The towels were old and worn out, they were changing them every day with just as old and worn out. The sheets were changed once in 7 days, they looked clean, but after a while, stains appeared on them from touching the mattress. For our stay there, the room and the bathroom were not cleaned just once. For the first time when I stay at a hotel, I have to buy preparations from the store and clean the bathroom.||The food was with poor quality and one and the same.||The staff was nice, but we noticed that they were working constantly and do everything - in the morning they served breakfast, during the day they changed towels and sheets, and probably cleaned the rooms, in the evening served dinner. Perhaps for this reason nothing is done properly.||The hotel is very old and needs serious maintenance and renovation. It has been built a long time ago and perhaps no repairs have been made since then.||Serious attention should also be paid to hygiene.||The thing I didn`t like most was dirt.||The most I liked was that the hotel is with great location and amazing view to the bay. The staff and the owners were very kind...
