Room invasion, robbery and irresponsible management. Stay away! Don't trade a free beer for your safety!
We were inside our private room already resting when it was invaded in the middle of the night by 3 (three) “security people” from the hostel, who managed to open the door (locked with a padlock). These criminals were already inside the room and going through our things when we woke up with the noise, screamed and they ran away with some money. We immediately contacted one of the hostel owners and heard him radio security and tell them in Spanish to “get lost because they were discovered” and did nothing else. Although afraid we had nowhere to go at that hour so decided to stay until morning at our locked room. We couldn’t believe that later there would be another attempt invade our room, this time by one of the participants of the party they were having at the hostel. We started screaming and the guy ran. We demanded that the hostel call the Lanquin Civil Police. Unfortunately police did not appear at the scene to register the incident. We were up all night scared. In the morning another one of the owners tried to trade my wife the “good rating” for a cup of coffee as if nothing happened that night. When we mentioned the invasions and robbery he made fun of us saying “Welcome to Guatemala”. There was no explanation why our room was invaded and robed, nor was there any apology. Fearing for our safety, we spent the whole night without sleeping and rushed in the morning to catch the shuttle to leave as quickly as possible.
Room invasion, robbery and irresponsible management sums it up. The hostel has a “good rating” because trades free drinks/beers for them and unfortunately we saw more than one person prefer not to tell the truth in exchange for a beer/coffee. Escape this place, it’s a no-man's land with bandits and no security, since they think they don’t have to provide secure place for guests. You could to be robbed and have your room invaded. This hostel's priority is to hold parties and sell drinks, since when you stay here there is nothing else nearby. There is no access control and you will be on your own in an unsecured place where the police won't go if you need them. We are also in contact with INGUAT (Guatemala Tourism Police) to register and demand action from the Guatemalan government because we have been traveling all over the world for more than 25 years and this was by far the worst experience we...

Read moreECO LODGE is the right word for it. Anyone expecting a luxurious place with WIFI and the cleanest bathrooms will be disappointed. Then why should I give this place 5 stars?
This place has its own energy. You will not be disturbed by music blaring until 12:00 at night or incoming messages from your phone all day long (no WIFI). Instead, you will listen to the sounds of the jungle and the river next to you. Our minds could just switch off and our bodies recovered very well.
We had one of the rooms on the top floor with glass windows. My wife and I lay side by side at 6:00 am listening to the sounds of nature awakening while looking at the river with smiles on our faces. The bed was simple, but very comfortable.
Everything is simple there. Some things could be improved. But honestly... That is perhaps why you just want to go there. You will experience the life there.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. And the most amazing thing.... My wife forgot her new iPad there. In many other places, you might consider it lost forever. Not with these folks... They will send it to us on the next bus to Antigua. How cool and trustworthy is that?
And yes I would go back there...
