amazing hostel, would stay here again.

First of all, need to emphasize just how friendly and helpful the owners, Mary-Lou and Tom are. So welcoming and so friendly, really made us feel at home here. Both have so much information about the area such as good restaurants, grocery stores, nearby ATMs etc. They also had tons of information about adventures in the area, such as various hikes, and included information on how to get there on our own without taking a tour / shuttle. But also have the option available to book tours & shuttles through the hostel. Very open and honest people. They really went above and beyond in terms of customer service.

Hostel itself was lovely, beds were comfortable. dorms were spacious and not too crowded, kept quite clean. big lockers to store your belongings in. huge rooftop terrace and bar to enjoy during nice weather. several nights a week they would host events such as karaoke, which was very fun. large communal kitchen which was fully equipped with plenty of utensils, cookware, and even tubber ware containers to store your leftovers in. stove, oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, coffee machine, kettle. free filtered water for guests. wifi worked great. hot water in the showers.

only downside there wasn’t a lot of bathrooms / toilets / showers compared to the number of guests, but that’s usually the case at most hostels!

thanks again Tom, Mary-Lou and the...

Can't speak to the other rooms, but the shared six room dorm with ensuite bathroom was a nightmare. The bathroom was unusable it was so disgusting. The staff were also aware of this as we talked to them about the bathroom, but nothing was done. It smelled like the worst porta potty you've ever encountered, and the smell seeped into the room. I had to go downstairs to use the other public restroom, which wasn't much nicer, and was consistently out of toilet paper. Beds were extremely uncomfortable where you could feel every single spring. Another girl in the room said she was in a different room prior and the bed there was also awful. Location is good, but I would spend a few more dollars and stay somewhere nicer. Gave it two stars for having bottled water for free in the kitchen where you can fill up your bottle and a nice rooftop view. Also, no bed bugs, but does that really make a place good? Also, fyi, the "restaurant" where they serve their paid bfast and encourage you to come to dinner is also owned by the same people and is kitty corner to the hostel. It's ok, but not great food and not extremely clean (there was a hair in my food). In this city with so many yummy restaurants, I'd...

Great location and very secure. Kitchen was clean and well equipped to cook in. The private room is right next to the stairs for the rooftop so extremely loud with people thumping up and down the stairs of a night time. Also right in front of the reception desk with staff talking loudly on the phone and watching YouTube all night. We stayed in low season, the bathroom and large waste paper bin hadn’t been emptied once and there was only 1 working shower which would’ve been a hassle had there been more people staying at the same time. Appears quite neglected with lots rubbish around, the hostel itself is most popular for its rooftop - not the accommodation and facilities. There should perhaps be a seperate entrance for the bar so guests aren’t constantly woken by the bell.

Amazing hostel to stay in Xela! Rooms are nice and comfortable, prices are good, kitchen has everything you need for cooking and it is very easy to meet other travellers and local people here. Rooftop bar is lively and popular with good drink deals and tasty food. It closes at 9pm so the hostel is quiet during nights. The owners Tom and Mary are super nice and they give lots of good info about Guatemala and what to do in the area! We had great time here and enjoyed our stay a lot!!🙌🏼
