We spend just one day/one night in Xela with the intention to hike up to Lago Chicabal. We realized that very few hotels were listed on the major booking sites; one of these few was Hotel Posada Antigua, which we booked immediately seeing that were few rooms left (and we were travelling to Xela the next day. It was pretty much centrally located and the pictures and price made the place look ok for one night. When we got there it was as expected: clean, safe and wifi! Breakfast was pleasantly also included (a la carte). Staff was also very friendly and always ready to help out (as in most places throughout Guatemala). Only minus point was that the light in our bathroom wasn't working properly; after 2 or 3 minutes it just goes out an stays out for a while. When asked to change the bulb, they told us that the electrical system causes the light go out if the temperature goes up on ceiling (some explanation I couldn't grasp to be honest). As it was for one night we didn't feel like making a too big of an issue out of this. Other thing is that we had to pay in cash, as creditcards couldn't be accepted (I don't know if that was a temporarily issue or if it' s their standard hotel policy - make sure to ask in advance if you're planning on booking here). In the end it was good overnight stay for our money's worth. Keep in mind though that it does get cold at night in Xela (and there...
Read moreI stayed here for 2 nights in March 2015. It has a lot of charm, spacious common areas that are tastefully decorated. I would not put this in the “hostel” category, it is much more like a hotel. I was in Room 9 which is a queen bed with a private bathroom. There is a small window in the room so you have some natural light. Many of the rooms are a little dark as they do not have exterior windows. ||||It was clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable. They use those electric shower heads that heat the water as it comes out. The trick to these is the lower the water volume the hotter the water is. If you open the valve all the way the water is lukewarm. I had a very hot shower! They offer a breakfast with choices. They have free wifi which is pretty good, better reception in the common areas.||||The night watchman speaks good english, the day staff does not speak much. It was still cold here in March which I am told, is unusual. I would recommend this place, you can’t beat the price! I looked at another “hostel” which only has shared bathrooms, and was pretty beat up. This place...
Read moreI made our reservation well in advance and arrived late afternoon. They were not prepared for us: no toilette paper and just one towel for the two of us. Stuff was police but not responsive. After several requests, i finally saw a worker come in from the street with toilette paper, but still none was brought to our room. I went to the desk and asked again and was told again that they would take some to the room. I said i would stand there until they gave me some so he went to the kitchen brought me a roll. Next morning the shower water was cold despite the "widow-maker" heater which we are very familiar with. After they reset the circuito breaker I was able to get hot water. Beds were comfortable and we slept warm but the rooms were dark and the área was "sketchy". We had paid for two nights but decided to leave the next morning. They refunded our second night without any questions and...
