I'm just finishing a four night stay, here, after two more nights staying in town.||||This is a lovely hotel on a lovely piece of property. I saw two rooms, both of which were clean and bright. The one I took (#1) is very comfortable with a great bed and three (!) great pillows.||||Good hot shower with ample pressure. No mirror near the sink (eg, for shaving), but I carry one, so ... fixed ;-)||||Paula and her staff ARE really great to deal with. Gunther IS a bit "gruff" and "surly," but ... you can usually get what you want from him. You just have to swallow a bit of attitude, along the way ;-)||||But I had issues, here. ||||The room had a refrigerator, or ... so I thought. After walking into town to buy groceries, I awoke to them frozen into blocks of ice. I had the thermostat set to the mid-point. There was a problem.||||Gunther told me that I "must have left the refrigerator door open." ||||I hadn't. ||||I asked him to check the refrigerator. "What do you want ME to do," he asked. "I'd like you to change it for another refrigerator -- one that works, please."||||He said nothing, and did nothing. He simply unplugged it.||||Turns out, it was a FREEZER, and not a refrigerator. He told me my food items would thaw out in a few days. "But I'm leaving in a few days." ||||He said nothing. He did nothing.||||I took yesterday off. Blisters from hiking, and worn out from 5hrs hiking in a "heat index" of 115F. ||||Decided to use my a/c. It doesn't work. 5-15 minutes of noise (bad fan or compressor), and then it locks up. Shut it down. Tried later. Same result. It's broken.||||Told him, this morning. He gave no indication that I would/should/could change rooms, or that it would be handled. I was simply now minus a refrigerator, my food, and air conditioning (yesterday, it was 95 and 72% humidity IN the room, despite the wonderful breezes).||||And the WiFi was down all day yesterday -- my "day off." Last time it went down, other guests complained. Gunther did nothing in response. It usually seems to come back up ... somehow.||||And ... I will have to approach Gunther about my bill, today. Oh, Joy ! ||||There's about $50 in charges more than I can account for. If it's right, then the prices of my one dinner, one "licuado," and two beers were ridiculously high. I mean ... higher than US or EU prices. Shouldn't be true, here.||||Otherwise, I'll have to deal with the accounting with him, or ... decide that the gruff and surly bit ... isn't of interest to me, take the hit for the money, and hop a bus, tomorrow. ||||Personalities shouldn't factor into such decisions, but ... it does. Others seem to imply that, too.||||I love the location. It's a SHORT walk to town. You are RIGHT on the beach. My fellow guests have been really great to deal with.||||And the meals I've eaten here WERE uniformly excellent.||||But ... when there's something wrong with your room, and it's a legitimate complaint ... the hotel business really IS about solving those sorts of problems, not telling the guest how THEY should accommodate (eg, waiting days for food to thaw out, or the implication that "Well. Now you DON'T have air conditioning").||||Lastly, and I do NOT present this as a judgment for all to accept, there is now a pretty active cock-fighting "stadium" located directly behind the hotel. You see it. You hear it. It gets pretty loud when the "game is on." That's cultural, and not my place to judge, but ... you really have to take pains to tune it out, not see it, and not hear it.||||And I couldn't help but be aware of what was going on within about 75' of my room -- Room #1. It neither sickens nor offends me, but ... given a choice, I wouldn't have it right in front of my face. It's just not my thing.||||Some will care. Others won't. There may be NOTHING Gunther and Paula can do about this one, but ... you should know.||||Would I stay here again ? Sadly, I wouldn't. There are other options -- some closer to town; some farther from town. And taxis here are cheap.||||Gunther and Paula: you have a beautiful property, here. Nothing that can't be fixed. But it has to be a priority for you, or ... I believe ... your reviews and your occupancy rates -- at least for those doing online homework -- will...
Read moreThis hotel is a little out of town and tucked away along the water's edge. I stayed for a week with several other people. The hotel is generally quiet and private, until the regular gathering of folks at the outdoor restaurant-bar gets going a little later in the evening and the hosts can relax some and enjoy their guests. This is a friendly comfortable spot in-the- making, with new rooms being added, with nice comfort as well. The owners, Paula and Gunter present a fine table, she the terrific cook and hostess, he the seemingly no nonsense builder and husband who pours a generous drink. See for yourselves and have a unique...
Read moreThe Hotel Casa Alemania is the best hotel in the Trujillo region. Located on the edge of town, the Alemania offers an off the beaten path location and a great open beach feel. The owners provide state side amenities with a Eurpoean flare. The food is great, the best meals we had during our month long stay in Honduras. The rooms were clean and the air conditoning cool. We sat around the open air bar every night and enjoy cool drinks and great conversations with our new friend Gunther. Several memebers of our group stayed at the Alemania on and off over a month and they all had the same great experiance. Highly recommend...
