Stay somewhere else if you can This is not the worst hotel in the world...but it is DEFINITELY not the best, either. I lived in this city for ten years, so I'm very familiar with the hotel, and I ate in the restaurant many, many times over the years. I always assumed it was a nice enough hotel, and the majority of locals believe this to be the case as well. Sadly, it's not. The price was extremely reasonable and this is why we stayed here, as we needed a room for two weeks. I was unimpressed from the moment we arrived. The receptionist was rude. When he said in Hungarian, "I request a passport number", I shot back with, "and we request a smile", as he never greeted us, didn't want to look away from his Facebook page or whatever he was reading on the internet when we came into the lobby and wanted to check-in. He was typically Hungarian.
The other receptionist was also very stoic, never smiled and when I would thank him for this or that over the days I was there, he never said "you're welcome" no nod, nothing. The one girl the first night we were there with dark hair was super friendly, but the other one with red hair was not as nice.
The room smelled like mold, particularly in the bathroom, and after several nights I finally figured out where the smell was coming from since we couldn't actually see the mold. It was coming from both the tub and sink taps! YUK! Keep in mind we had to rinse our mouths out with this water while brushing our teeth, and bathed and showered in it as well. The stench was something awful and they desperately need to look into fixing this.
The room itself was very big and spacious with enough room for the two of us. However, this didn't make up for anything. Aside from the mold smell in the bathroom, the TV nearly didn't work at all the whole time we were there. The remote wouldn't work at all the first three nights, and they tried fixing it several times. The only way we could charge our American phones was by plugging the USB into the TV, and then leave the TV on. Fine. This would have been fine except that since the remote didn't work we couldn't turn the sound down. Then when we were finally able to turn the sound down (after a day and a half), then we couldn't turn it up when we actually wanted to watch TV!
The phone didn't work the entire two weeks we were there, and they tried fixing it as well, but to no avail. This meant that we were able to make outgoing calls, but not receive any incoming calls. I was there for a week and my mom stayed on the second. While I was abroad in another country I tried calling the hotel, and when I asked that they go upstairs to her room to tell her I was calling they were always put out and sighed deeply into the receiver not wanting to let her know I was on the line. Sorry, but this is not my problem - it's the hotel's! It's also your job...get over it.
There is also no elevator and it's an enormous staircase to any room in the hotel, so if you're not in the mood for a bit of a workout, then you're out of luck, I'm afraid.
The beds were comfortable however, and the maids always kept the room clean each day and were actually very friendly. The owner is also a very nice lady but she definitely needs to do some upkeep on the hotel, not just on renovations but also...
Read morePros:|- Contrary to what I had read and was expecting, the receptionists were amiable (but in all truth, we did not ask many questions; how chatty could you really get when your interlocutor is well built, tall, British guard-faced, answers in one syllable words looking almost as fierce as a Slavic policeman). We even got smiles.||- The rooms are very spacious and those overlooking the center are bright.||- Finally, a hotel where the air conditioning is actually working! (really appreciated that on a summer day)||-The hotel has a restaurant and its own pub (tried the latter and loved the paprikas and the service). Tips are included on the bill here (10%), so if you're happy with the service you'd have to tip extra, since the tip on the bill probably goes to the management.||-The hotel is 1 minute from a Mall, restaurants, pubs.||-Free wifi, working great||Dislikes:||- Being at the very heart of the town/resort, there is loud music coming from the street, either from concerts or bars until ~12 midnight, so if you want to go to sleep earlier or you have babies, the music might be a problem.||-For its approximately 200 rooms, the hotel has only 5-6 parking spaces. There are parking lots in the area, 350 HUF/h, so if you were to park your car for a whole day (hours 8-17) it would cost you around 10 Euro/11$. Maybe the hotel is better suited for visitors who came without a car.||-The cleaning could be a bit better. Saw spider webs and a lady's tampon in the bathroom drain that the cleaning lady...
Read moreOur room was labelled as superior, so expectations were high and were not met.||Room was a new/nicely renovated three star indeed with a properly working and quiet AC. Bathroom was an old three star place, it looked okay at first sight, but later I discovered the moldy parts and that the sink was leaking. Corridors were very old two stars with disgusting carpet. Breakfast selection wasn't too wide but it tasted good and they did have lactose free (rice) milk as we requested. Service really was depending on who was on duty; the first receptionist was a bored and uninterested guy, everyone else we met was helpful. The hotel has an excellent location, right in the centre of the town. Parking lot is in the inner court, I think it is not guarded but at least you don't need to park in the street. Price of rooms is relatively cheap. No elevator in the hotel, but the staircase is really spectacular. Their booking system - as they say - requests every single data about you, from your address to your bank card number, too much sensitive data in one place in my opinion.||||To sum up, for one night it is okay, but our superior room was very far from being superior, and despite its positive features the hotel made a rather...
