I don't even know where to start... One thing is for sure, my opinion will also be posted on Google reviews. The hotel would be fine overall, but it's overshadowed by the fine print (which, incidentally, cannot be found anywhere on the website). First of all, some waiters responded so condescendingly to my questions that I felt like a fool because I couldn't even get a sip of water with my dinner. When we were dining, we ordered a soft drink. My husband had it, and the waiter asked if he could bring another one. My husband nodded... This wouldn't be a problem if they didn't charge double for the service fee! Absolutely outrageous. Then, on the last day, the behavior of the receptionist was the icing on the cake! The sarcastic contempt that guy displayed should be taught as an example of what not to do in a book.

We decided to leave earlier, partly due to certain family reasons, and also because of the moldy bathroom and the non-functioning air conditioning. The previous evening, a new receptionist was on duty, who tried very hard to help and promised that the manager would speak to the sales department the next day... Of course, the shift-changing receptionist, some Barnabas with a poker face, informed us that we had to pay for everything (we left the hotel one day earlier). When I mentioned what the previous night's receptionist had promised, he asked the sales lady (who was also very kind), as we wanted to request some discounts due to the early departure, to which she agreed. Then he handed the phone to the lady who asked for the reasons (which I mentioned earlier). Then the receptionist said they would get back to us when they had discussed it. I asked, when? The response was again in a mocking tone, soon... Then, about 15-20 minutes later, the phone rang, and they were willing to give us a 5% discount. We didn't mind at that point, we just wanted to leave. While the family was packing, I went to pay. I had to sign the bill, and since I worked as an accountant for over 10 years, it's standard for me to check the numbers and what I'm signing. I noticed that they charged us for parking for 4 nights instead of 3. When I pointed it out, he said in a haughty tone that the system automatically bills it. Okay, I said, but we were here for 3 nights, not 4. To this, he replied without flinching that we're talking about 1000 HUF (Hungarian Forint). I smiled and said, exactly! Then, with a murderous look, he took a thousand from the cash register and handed it to me.

This behavior and attitude solidified my decision not to recommend this hotel to anyone, and I will also post my review in English on the internet.

The cleaning lady was the most dedicated and conscientious. She deserves all...

I was in your hotel several times before the renovation. Yes, it's better. But. When you enter the hotel, there is an incredible smell of chlorine that is throughout the hotel.|The reception was very helpful and fluent in the language, so I can only praise that.|Room 313 is on 3 floors like the reception, so you didn't have to walk up the stairs.|The room was standard, but the refrigerator had not been replaced, so it almost did not cool at all and was empty. In a 4-star hotel, I would expect a full minibar service.|Although there was water in the room, it was only paid for. I would expect free bottled water everyday.|The bed was adequate, but the headrests were small.|The bathroom was clean when it was opened, but things like cotton wool for the ears were missing, and for a wellness hotel I would expect body lotion, which was not in the bathroom.|There was no cleaning during the 5-day visit!!!|We had a basket brought out once, but that was all.|The bathroom was not cleaned at all and the bed was not even made.|Yes, we had a dog in the room, but we were always outside the hotel with the dog during the day, but upon arrival, the room was not cleaned even once.|I have to appreciate that you can go to the hotel with a dog.|But I would expect at least something for a fee of €20 per night, that something would be prepared for the dog. The bed, water bowl, and some plums were missing.|The restaurant was clean and the food could always be chosen.|It is quite rude that they charge the tip automatically directly in the bill.|Wellness is new but rather poorly maintained. Around the pool, there is a mosaic that is very dirty and not maintained.|What I have to praise is that there is a no-swimwear zone in one part of the sauna.|Although I don't understand how someone can go to the sauna in a swimsuit. This should be prohibited in the entire sauna. The saunas are small, but there are several of them, so everyone can choose.|The overall impression of the visit was good, but I would think about whether I would...

It is an okay hotel, but by far not what I’d expect from a 4 star hotel. Rooms are fine, nothing much to say. Spacious and clean. The food was okay, but nothing amazing. While there was a little of everything, it lacked in flavour and often the options weren’t great. Having 5 different meat dishes and two different fries as a side option just seemed odd. The salad bar also had old vegetables, dried cucumbers and lettuce as well as pickles. The coffee at breakfast was horrible. Straight up not drinkable. For dinner we ordered a 1L lemonade to share, I emphasised three times that we’d like 1L and still we got a single 0,4 glass. When we asked to get the 1L, the 0,4 was taken back and we got a 1L lemonade, however 100% the 0,4 was just dumped into the 1L pitcher and water was added, it didn’t taste like lemonade, it tasted like straight up water… 2700ft water. The Spa is nice, however the water temperatures are not true from what is advertised. On a Friday, the water of both pools was great and comfortable, Saturday one pool was freezing and the other was warm, but far from the day prior and comfortable to sit and relax. The Saunas also weren’t turned on until around 3pm Saturday. The Sauna that was supposed to be 90°C showed 40°C. Considering the weekend is more expensive, it’s crazy that they turn down the Spa’s temperature. The service at the Bar upstairs and downstairs wasn’t the same either. While you’re served a coffee with water, sugar, and a cookie upstairs, for the same price downstairs you just get the coffee. The hotel also has some programs during the day, however it is poorly advertised or just not done. While we were there, there was supposed to be food available from an outside oven during dinner hours… which didn’t happen. A “cheese tasting” was them just putting out the regular daily cheese plate. All in all, it was a bit of a letdown.

We stayed at Fagus in august 2023 and wanted to share our feedback: PRO’s: - The renovated building beautifully blends modernity with charm. - gentlemen at reception made our arrival welcoming - Dining was a highlight, offering a variety of dishes with courteous and attentive service. The food quality was notably above-average for Hungary. Kudos to Janos the waiter! - Despite not being marketed for children, the hotel showed impressive care and attention towards young guests. CON’s: - Rooms near the electrical cabinet were noisy, affecting sleep quality. The hotel did not provide prior warning or compensation for this issue. - Room cleaning was unsatisfactory. Despite requesting service, the room remained mostly unattended, particularly the bathroom. - Our interaction with the reception staff, particularly with a supervisor named Nanda, was notably disappointing. Her approach was unprofessional and rude, undermining the expected guest-centric approach of the hotel. We overheard her instructing a colleague in a whisper to feign busyness and then deny our request. This behavior was both childish and unacceptable. Unfortunately, this experience has deterred us from returning to this hotel, despite our previous affection for it. Overall, while there were positive aspects, the negatives significantly impacted our experience at Fagus.

Sopron is a relaxing holiday that my wife and I often go to. Fagus hotel is generally a good option but there are areas that can be improved. First of all I have to say that Fagus is definitely the best option around. The hotels around it are very bad. (yes I have stayed in all of them.) The rooms are nice, spacious and clean. The food buffet is mostly good. Especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. The products are fresh and delicious. There are also many options. I think the spa areas are not very good. There are people inside who drink alcohol and talk loudly. There are people who leave their towels in the small area below all day. The hotel management should intervene in such situations. The pool, which should be warm, is not warm at all. Instead of using the children's pool, the children dive in the adult pool and no one does anything about it. We really experienced a lot of discomfort in the spa area. The worst of all experiences were some of the staff at the reception. Although there was no one in front of us to check in, the receptionist made us wait for 5 minutes. He was only busy with other things there and did not look at us. Even if he had something else to do, he should have asked for some time. He was quite rude.
