We stayed at the Malom-tó Guest House in Tapolca for 5 nights. I will start with the positive things about the place. It's a lovely little guest house right near the Mill Pond in the town and within walking distance to several restaurants. The bathroom in our room was new and modern, and the room was very pretty with good air conditioning and spotty wifi (it was better when you went out of the room). Unfortunately the room was too small for 3 people with luggage. It perhaps would be okay if you only had overnight bags. ||The owners of the place were nice enough but we had very little contact with them. They barely spoke any English and were therefore unable to help us with activities in the area, which is usually one of the major benefits when staying in a small guest house. Also, we only saw them at breakfast time so that was the only time we could (try to) ask them anything. Having answered all my emails prior to booking in English, I feel they should have told me that they don't in fact speak English.||Breakfast was okay. Though we had said upfront that we are vegetarian, there was a lot of meat offered and not much variety. On the last day there was no instant coffee - only espresso.||Our room and bathroom was not cleaned once in the 5 days we stayed there nor were the towels changed. ||Finally, having stayed at the place and paid in full during our stay, the guest house then proceeded to mark our stay as cancelled through the booking agency we used. I find that a little suspicious and hope it was only a mistake!||To sum up, it's a nice enough place but suggest you only stay there if you are not looking for any detailed advice about where and what to do...

I've booked this hotel via booking.com 2 month before my arrival, I wasn't asked to provide credit card details of pay in advance as it's been said on their page that guests should pay in cash upon check in. 24 hours before our arrival I've got a message from this hotel that in order to keep my reservation I need make an international wire transfer otherwise the rooms we have booked would be cancelled. I've tried to explain we are already on our trip and that I have no way to make this, and suggested to pay or secure our arrival with credit card, as we are in 2022. The next thing I've received was a cancellation message from the hotel of our booking for the day after. Now imagine yourself on a hike in the Austrian Alps, with minimal internet access, discovering that you no longer have room to your family to the next day! We had to change our plans, cancel all our other plans we had, and founding ourselves in our hotel room in Austria looking for a new hotel for the next day. This is just unbelievable and definitely the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my 48 years of traveling all over the world, both for business and for leisure.
