I was a bit unsure about booking this property because I couldn't tell online whether it was going to turn out to be cheap or charming. I'm posting because I want to reassure people who might be nervous about booking it: it's charming. I'd go back.||||The owner is lovely and a professional winemaker. I've visited a lot of wine regions, and spent months in some, and the (optional for a fee) wine-tasting he arranged one evening (of his own wines), held together with other guests in an outdoor nook, was one of the most enjoyable wine-tastings I've experienced. It felt like conversation with an expert and passionate friend. (The host's English is very good and the conversation flows easily.)||||The rooms are spotless and renovated. The property is quiet and right at the vineyard -- I sat in the backyard and had morning coffee gazing at the ripening grapes. (Guests have access to well-stocked kitchen facilities.) It was an ideal way to start the day on a wine tour.||||That said -- this is not charming in the sense of an expensive Napa B&B. Myrtus is not for the person who wants a room with antique furnishings and a four-poster bed, complete with free wi-fi. Myrtus does not provide hotel-style amenities, there is no air conditioning, and furnishings are basic and sometimes well-used. There's also no reception, so you need to call him and let him know when you'll be arriving. (That can be tricky for non-Europeans whose cell phones don't work in Europe. I sent him an email in advance and made sure I was on time). He doesn't have time to spend gardening so the grounds aren't manicured. In sum, this is not an inn run for the convenience of guests by a professional innkeeper, it's a side business for a professional winemaker, and more like staying in a friend's guesthouse.||||If you wish you had a friend near Tokaj with a guest room, Myrtus with its friendly, expert host is the...
Read moreÁkos and his wife Orsi are very friendly people who are doing their job of winemakers and as well Airbnb with love, respect and with knowledge, erudition. If I can give them more points that it is here possible for the review I would do it, for their hospitality, wine and cheese tasting, talk about history of region and about history of Tokaj wine. Their house is cosy and you have there everything you need. We saw the cave for wine and wine tasting was near by in their house. I know really a lot about history, however Ákos told me some facts and stories that were really new for me and I was happy to talk with him about the region, source of winemaking here. Their volcanic soil is just 3 hectares (if I remember well), however since 2007 they are able to produce at least 6-8 (or more) different sorts of Tokaj (dry Muskátli , Lipovina etc, sweet Szmarodni, Aszú and bubbling etc) and for such relatively smaller company it is a big success, especially because each sort of their wine I tasted was extraordinary and with nice sent, bouquet of the wine, each of them has different one bouquet . The neighbourhood is lovely, calm, pittoresque. Tokaj wine was served at many European courts for centuries and I can confirm it, that deserves...
Read moreWhat a great place to stay and the owners are so friendly. Located next to the wine cellar this is just a fab place to go. About the accommodation. Simply loved it. Very cosy, countryside style of house/cabin with microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and 2 burner stove. We managed to cook lovely meals in this small kitchen but it works with the utensils provided. ||||Located on a street with multiple wine cellars (pinces) you can try and best part you do not need to drive!. Be sure to have a tasting with the owners. Very friendly couple that really are into giving you a good time. We visited for Easter and we could even paint eggs The cheese you can have with the wine is simply to die for and can also be bought at the cheese maker down the road. Furthermore there are 2 great places in Tarcal if you are into a great dinner or/and an ultimate spa experience. At the Adrassy wine residence spa and Grof Degenfeld hotel you can really experience complete luxury||||Would definitely visit this place again. Surroundings are beautiful and also an option for a beautiful hike to see the complete valley||||My recommendation. Be sure...
