Honestly, I had never stayed at a guesthouse before, so I was a bit skeptical. However, after staying here, I'd do it again. Kef Guesthouse was overall very clean & nice! My room was perfect for getting ready for my flight out the following morning. The shared bathroom/shower was nice & very clean. I inadvertently completely deleted the email with the code for my room. Replied to my confirmation email & management replied within minutes with the code. Very impressive. It is a five minute drive to Keflavik Airport from Kef Guesthouse, so it was very convenient after my weeklong solo road trip around Iceland. The history of Kef Guesthouse is an interesting one. I believe it was originally an Army base, then later a prison. In fact, I shared pictures of 'jail cell no. 4'. Then it was remodeled into what it is now. I'm glad they left the jail cell, it piqued my curiosity to learn more about it. The last two pictures are of the sunset the night of my stay at Kef Guesthouse in April, and the sunrise the following morning. It was spectacular! If you're looking for a nice, inexpensive place to stay either your first or last night in Iceland, I definitely recommend Kef Guesthouse.

Brilliant place to stay, the rooms are basic but very clean. The bed was really comfy and big. There was sink in the room and a small table and a wardrobe but no toilet or shower. The toilet and shower were at both ends of the main corridor but it’s a matter of seconds to walk and they were very clean and tidy. All toiletries are supplied, toilet roll, towels, shower gel, shampoo and soap. There is a canteen and dining room, there’s loads of free food in there, which is really nice to see. I assume its what people leave behind as its all self catering, so if you’re on a tight budget, you’ll be able to get a free breakfast! There’s tea, coffee, juice and water available for free too. There’s books, a TV and internet access in the canteen area too. The location is spot on, its about a 3 minute drive from the airport and its seconds away from the main road to get you in any direction around Iceland. There’s a bus stop outside too. Overall, very good place to stay for a very good price and in an ideal location if you’re driving.

Edited! Overall the establishment is clean. You're gonna definitely need earplugs if your even remotely a light sleeper. People can be quite loud and the walls seemed to be quite thin. As well as there's quite a bit of Road noise. I was only giving 3 stars because the rooms are very very cold. I'm comfortable to walk around with a lightweight jacket and cap. I slept fully clothed with a stocking cap on my head. Other guest were complaining about their rooms being too chilly. Staff wasn't helpful in that aspect. The outside temperature is 38 Fahrenheit which is somewhere around 0 Celsius. Updating my comment! The knob to turn up heat/radiator. Looking forward to warming the room and sleeping with a little less clothing on. One of the beds was pushed against the radiator.

The room is adequate and it's nice that you get an in-room sink, but there are not toilets in all rooms. All toilets and showers are together, and there are only 3 of them. It is very likely that they will all be in use at the same time, which is frustrating. It would be nice if there was even just one toilet separately to avoid this issue. They are also wet bathrooms, meaning the shower isn't fully enclosed and water gets everywhere. I found it difficult to figure out how to keep my clothes dry and also not track water everywhere after I got out. They provide a large squeegee for the floor, but it was still a challenge. You have to pay for breakfast separately and quite frankly it's not worth the extra cost. They keep refrigerated things (such as cream cheese, juice, hard boiled eggs, etc) in a cooler, which (at least when I was there) doesn't work, so they sit unrefrigerated for hours. I decided that was too risky and went for the shelf stable breakfast items, but again it wasn't really worth the extra cost. There is a large fridge in the kitchen which I used to keep a couple small items cold while I was there. The rooms themselves are adequate but basic; usually there is a TV in most places, but that was not the case here. It wasn't the end of the world, but worth mentioning. Also, it snowed quite heavily right as I was arriving and just outside the entrance door turned to ice. That was not cleared or salted by the time I left, so it was very slick. My advice: stay...

It was a disappointing experience. It is not a guesthouse. It is a house that rents rooms. No in person host. You are on your own. I knocked over a soda. No paper towels or any access to anything. I wasn't allowed to check in early. I could if I was willing to pay 50 Euros. A "special exception" was made so I could leave my carry on inside the house. I was told "guests were sleeping". Please be aware I stayed at the airport 3 hours before I went to the "guesthouse" at 7:15 to attempt a check in. I had emailed the request for an early check in. I didn't receive any answer in advance. The host did call a taxi so I could go to Reykavik without looking for a bus after no sleep. Thank you.| I returned to house at 17:00 after being awake for 30 hrs and was told other guests arriving at 1:00 AM. "I will tell them to be quiet" Really?! So 1:00AM is OK not 7:15. Because the host offered early check in for a fee a space was available.|I left. It was my mistake that I knocked over my soda, but my sheets had soda and the side table and floor with no way to clean. The side table was a vinyl cube that was so old the vinyl had peeled away on one side. You could find better furniture at a charity shop or FB Marketplace for free. I have traveled extensively and been in 3rd world countries and hostels and this was just unacceptable. This was 100 Euros. I paid 160 Euros for an airport hotel The Aurora which...

Like many people, when the pandemic hit we had to cancel our travel plans. This was the only booking that was a giant hassle to deal with. We had booked and paid for an entire trip to Iceland, and contacted all of the hotels, transfers, and tours to cancel and get refunds or vouchers. Every other venue was willing to work with us under the circumstances – even if the reservation had been non-refundable - except this one.||||At first we were told that we could cancel and reschedule until the end of 2021. Then when we tried to do so, they said that if we cancelled we would simply lose all our money whether we rescheduled or not. After some arguing, we were again told that we could reschedule, but they wanted us to pay them more money. We refused, and there was more arguing. Finally, we booked a date without paying more, and when we received a booking confirmation it said the new booking could be cancelled for a full refund. After all of that. It was ridiculous that, for a one-night stay, we had to spend two or three hours arguing with different representatives, when every other booking – most of them much more expensive – dealt with us courteously and efficiently.||||When it’s safe to travel again, we intend to re-book the trip exactly as before – the only exception being that we won’t re-book here, as they were so unreasonable and stressful...
