Service was absolutely rude and accusatory.
We stopped here on our last day in the country, 22/09/19 around noon, and purchased 5-6 baked goods, that were delicious (reason for two stars, credit is def due there) and two mochas. We were told the mochas would be made and we would be called over when ready. We never left the front counter. We patiently waited 5-10m with no drinks, watching multiple orders be taken and filled, until a couple made a fuss over their mochas and wanting oat milk in them. Their special order mochas were made immediately, even though they required a whole performance from the staff regarding the absurdity of making them add oat milk to a machine.
I ascertained if our mochas will be ready soon since we had to leave shortly (our rental was due in 20m) and I know mochas were now being made. I was told by the older woman working there, that my mochas were made and someone else took them. I looked at the woman incredulous, since I was there the whole time, and asked “So, we don’t get our drinks?” The woman rolled her eyes, huffed, said nothing more, and walked away.
The absurdity of the situation left us stunned. I stared for a few seconds, turned to my partner and exclaimed “well I guess we don’t get our Mochas. That’s fun”
I was extremely polite, waited patiently for longer than I should have, and was still treated with such disrespect as if I was an annoyance. We left with no Mochas. I’m not sure if this woman was sick of customers due to the couple before us giving her a hard time but we did not deserve this treatment. We paid and waited calmly like instructed. It was not my fault if the instructions provided by staff were not followed by staff and furthermore it’s not on me to babysit all of your customers. We were respectful and moved out of everyone’s way the best we could while technically being robbed.
I am already in the process of disputing half of our charges. I should dispute the whole charge but at least we did get to eat something while waiting...
Read moreUpon touching down in the land of fire and ice at an ungodly hour, my wife and I discovered that Reykjavík was still wrapped in slumber's tight embrace—all save for the welcoming glow of "Kokulist Ehf." Stepping inside, we were greeted by the cozy melody of small, charming tables nestled within an intimate setting, each one whispering tales of travelers and locals alike crossing paths.
The café itself, a kaleidoscope of warmth in the hushed Icelandic dawn, offered refuge and a brew to melt away the travel frost. With hands wrapped around steaming cups of Americano (priced at a modest 1240 kr), we savored the rich, bold flavors that seemed to pay homage to the volcanic heart of this island. Accompanying this liquid embrace was the Skinkuhorn (595 kr)—a delightful pastry that's both a testament to local flavors and a flaky, buttery nod to the universal language of comfort food.
As the world outside began to stir, Kokulist Ehf stood as a beacon of Icelandic hospitality, its ambiance a blend of modernity and homely charm, with an open display of mouthwatering pastries that promised and delivered delight. This little haven didn’t just serve breakfast; it served an experience—a culinary prelude to the adventures that lay in the land of the midnight sun. Five stars to Kokulist Ehf, where the coffee is as robust as the landscapes and the pastries as warm as...
Read moreA very atmospheric bakery on the main street in Njardvik. Delicious products both in the form of bread and cakes. You can also buy coffee on the premises, but the coffee is of very poor quality (especially mocha - the staff has no idea how to make it). There are also tables inside with couches and chairs where you can sit, eat and drink coffee. When the weather is nice, you can also sit outside, although the parking lot right in front of the garden and the proximity to the main street is not encouraging due to noise and exhaust fumes. Unfortunately, the tables are not cleaned very often and it happened that we had to do it ourselves. Neat bathroom, free parking. The downside is the high prices and unpleasant staff, who even expect tourists to...
