I'm going to review only the restaurant (not the hotel) to which I've been thrice till now. This is the only place I'm aware of as a new temporary resident of Tinsukia which is worth going to for spending quality time enjoying decent meals with friends, family, or just with oneself. The restaurant, or for that matter, the hotel is not beside the highway, but a little away from it led by a small path in between the roadside clothing store Vandana and the restaurant Gitanjali. The location of the restaurant makes it less visible to new visitors who are new to the place.
I've had "murgh dum biryani" (Rs. 350), "awadhi gosht dum biryani" (Rs. 400), "crispy chilli baby corn" (Rs. 200), "sada chawal" (Rs. 95), "garlic naan" (Rs. 50 for 3 pieces), "chicken reshmi masala" (Rs. 370), "golden fried prawns" (Rs. 470), "non-alcoholic beverages (aerated drinks)" (Rs. 60 for a glass of Sprite or Coca-Cola) and "packaged drinking water" (Rs. 30 for a 1 l Kinley). The prices mentioned do not include GST and taxes need to be paid separately.
Murgh dum biryani (chicken biryani), along with raita, was decent. The chicken pieces were perfectly cooked and satisfactorily soft. But the chicken pieces seemed to be lacking the thick juicy masala coating typically present on the chicken pieces of a good chicken biryani. The coating was very thin or insufficient to be seen or felt even if it was present. The pieces were, therefore, not that tasty. This aspect is a big minus point of the biryani. The raita that came along was just great. The rice too was satisfactory. The biryani came with brown onion garnishing.
All the things mentioned about chicken biryani apply to awadhi gosht dum biryani (mutton biryani) too, except for the presence of that rich spicy layer on the mutton pieces. Besides, the mutton pieces looked attractively dark brown. However, I didn't like the raita as much as the one that came with the chicken biryani. I'm not sure if it was the same raita. But my friend thinks it's the same raita. He liked the chicken biryani more than the mutton biryani.
Crispy chilli baby corn was not at all satisfactory. It was hard instead of crispy and the onion pieces present in it were too finely chopped. We liked the crispy chilli baby corn served in Lions of Punjab.
Sada chawal (plain basmati rice) was up to the mark. The only disappointment was that the quantity was very less for the high price. It's just a small bowl. It will be insufficient for a person, esp. a healthy adult man who is hungry.
Garlic naan was just fab. We liked them. They were soft, rich and loaded with a lot of butter. They were served in a beautiful utensil. The price too seems reasonable.
Chicken reshmi masala didn't look so delicious at first sight, but when tasted it turned out to be delicious. This item consisted of short cylindrical pieces of ground chicken dipped in gravy.
Golden fried prawns was a big no-no. We expected a decent amount of small prawns simply fried until golden, but received not more than a handful of big prawns coated with some pale unsavoury layer. They seemed to be boiled prawns coated with the layer and then fried in a lot of oil. It was oily, pale, and not golden. We couldn't complete them properly despite the insufficient quantity and tried eating them removing the oily coating. They felt like a complete waste of money for the unattractive look, unpalatable taste and insufficient quantity.
We ordered two glasses of Coca-Cola under non-alcoholic beverages for Rs. 60 each. I regretted my choice later realising that a complete bottle of Sprite or Coca-Cola that can easily fill two glasses comes at a price of Rs. 40 or so.
1 l of Kinley too costed us Rs. 30, though its MRP is Rs. 20 only.
The staff consist mostly of responsive polite girls dressed in soft peach-coloured shirts. The air-conditioned space was cosy, clean with soft instrumental music playing, soft lights glowing and lucky bamboo plant bowl at each table. A tidy...
