First off, this is a residential flat on the second floor of a commercial building turned into a homestay. Only do a walk-in booking if it's your last resort & you have no other option. Book through goibibo which I didn't, otherwise, they'll ask for any price. They asked for ₹1200 for the room with shared bathrooms & ₹1500 for the room with attached bathroom (the one I booked). Pros: Situated in a prime location. That's all. Cons: 1. Overpriced than it's online counterpart. Every hotel/guest house/homestay should have a set detailed catalogue about the info/prices of the rooms available to customers. You can't just say any price you wish upon seeing the guests. Dirty building, stairs & surroundings. Nonhygienic, dumped garbage all around, spit at every corner. Non-functional lift/elevator. Plus complete darkness after 8pm while walking through ground floor to second floor through the stairs. Unsafe, unprofessional. The manager/host is greedy & unprofessional. He will agree to things while checking in & just turn a blind eye later. We checked in at 12:30pm & asked if it's okay to checkout a couple minutes overtime (checkout is 11am) & he just agreed so we'd book. Next day, he sent the caretaker twice & came to bother us himself as well at 10am saying we must leave before 11 itself, new guests are arriving. One of the biggest PROBLEMS. They don't allow you to get food in your room, no packaged food, Swiggy/Zomato. That's only so you can get their food services that they cook (poor menu, dirty utensils, unhygienic way of cooking). I asked for a bowl because of my sickness so I can eat fruits & they hesitated at that as well while giving. Dirty bathrooms. Empty hand wash. No soaps. There was a bird's nest in the exhaust fan of the bathroom, a dead baby bird dropped on the bathroom & it was stinking of rotten eggs. Dirty linens, pillow covers & smelly blankets. They didn't even bother to clean the previous guests' towel & just left the disgusting smelly dirty stained towel hanging in the bathroom. The ceiling fan was weak in such Ghy heat & lousy with noise coming out of it, & the AC was not functional. TV is a show piece with news channels I guess. Could barely sleep the entire night, there was some noisy activity going on around the building which hampered peace even at night hours, noise by other guests & workers too. They clearly had WiFi but refused to share it with guests. Horrible policy of keeping your IDs in their possession until checkout, this isn't 1990. Take a picture, xerox or scan & return it. Moreover, the mandatory form fill up is beyond annoying. You have to mention your address's landmark, police station & post office. Am I applying for a job? If airports are ok with one ID, I don't think a homestay needs this much info.
Bad experience. This place has potential if taken care of, but unfortunately it's not & is run by greedy people. 1/5 over-all. Never...
Read moreReferred by a trusted Homestay owner in Guwahati as they didn’t have rooms , we spent 4 nights with my family including my mother (68) at Ri Sun , situated in a prominent place in Ganeshguri. Although the property is good but the rooms are in second and third floor and the lift is broken and being a heart patient my mother found walking the stairs difficult. But that’s not their fault as we didn’t bother ourselves to look for any other homestay. They’ve a shared kitchen and a menu and additionally if anyone wants to cook by themselves ,, that’s great at a cost of 250 per day. Two humble boys are there to look after the guests but they cannot provide apparently half of the items mentioned in the menu; may be they had a cook earlier but the menu remained unchanged. 10:30 pm is the ultimate time to get inside the room that includes having your dinner (about which we didn’t know). Not getting the food as per the menu we brought eatables from outside and asked the two caretakers to go to sleep as we didn’t want to bother them including washing our utensils by ourselves. At 10:40 pm or so the owner’s wife came and told us in a rude manner that we were not letting the boys to have their dinner and sleep as they’ve to wake up the next day at 4 am, and it would be 12 in the night for us to finish our dinner; a behaviour which hurt us and instantly came a feeling as if we were staying without money. The owner is a gentle well mannered person but his wife is ill mannered and try to see guests as hostel boarders. People go out to relax and spend quality time with family and during this time they come across people which makes a lasting...
Read moreWell, readers, if you book rooms by checking reviews, DO NOT forget to read this one! The owner's fav statement, "Business is not going well these days ", says that to every customer. I recently spent half a day at this homestay. The owner suggested that if my train was reaching Guwahati early, I should book the room for one whole day so that I can check in at whatever time. So I informed him that my train might reach as early as 5 AM, but not so sure since trains are unpredictable. Fortunately, I reached Guwahati station around 3:50 AM. So I had to call the owner, and he peacefully welcomed. And my uncle dropped me off at the room for my safety and headed back to the airport for his work. Now the horror begins! Check-out time was at 11. I requested the owner to let me stay till 11:30 since my exam begins at 2. I had nowhere to go, and I'm alone in the city. To my disappointment, he disagreed, giving excuses of cleaning the room and it's Sunday. He started complaining about how I woke him up at 3:52 AM. WOW! His tone of disrespect shook me up. I booked for the whole day to his advice when I didn't even stay in the room and only spent 5 hours max and had to check out by 11. If I had to pay full amount for 5 hours, why couldn't he compensate for 30 MINUTES? Rules applied only when it comes to customers, but not when it comes to his decisions!? Holding my dignity and self-respect, I left the room...
