When we had booked HTH, we had anticipated it to be a resort or hotel. However, we found out only later that this is a guest house. ||||Make no mistake, this place has a certain vibe that’s hard to ignore. The evenings spent in the restaurant are its USP amongst other things which are star gazing and enjoying nature. The HTH is situated in the lap of nature and you can hear the roar of the river all day long sitting on the verandah or watching the hills, forests and cultivation fields. We did observe that this place is frequented by many repeat customers. Owners are cooperative and they arranged a room for my senior citizen mother in the main house when she found the stairs too difficult for her to climb to the Mud huts.||||However we felt that this place has fallen into disrepair and lacks in the quality of infrastructure and service.||||• Contrary to the rates charged for a stone cottage (Rs 4500 per night – without breakfast), the room is very basic. Basic furniture – and that where it ends. When compared with the less than 4000 Johnson Hotel at Manali or similar priced BNR Chanakya at Ranchi – this return you get on payment is abysmally low. No tea coffee machine. The Television doesn’t work. A single geyser is shared between 2 rooms. There was an avoidable smell in the bathroom for the entire duration we were staying. In the stone cottages where we stayed, our sleep was time and again impacted by a noise.||||• Room cleaning wasn’t done on the next day. ||||• I had heard of their chicken sizzlers and steaks. But when compared to the steaks I had at Johnson hotel or in Calcutta’s Mocambo, this was poorly cooked. The sauce in the sizzlers is tasty, yet the overall dish cuts a sorry figure. The day when we had lunch – famished after a hike and had ordered dal, chicken curry, salad and rice. Both the dal and chicken had an unfamiliar smell that turned off our appetite. When we asked the cook, he said that since there was no coriander, so he put...
Read moreExceeds expectations. Wonder this little jewel is rated as a 2 star hotel. Because the rooms, the food, the service is all 5 star.
Anyone who plans on going for a few days should keep extra few days in the plan as you cannot help extending your stay.
The property is located in a wonderful alcove with a pristine mountain ridge and river view. Location. Location. Location.
Perfect idyllic village with low noise pollution yet well connected to everything within hours.
The less i say about the food the better because theres not enough in the vocabulary to descibe the AWESOME taste and variety. Garden Fresh gets a new definition in their kitchen.
The rooms are luxurious , lovely tasteful interiors and all the technology to stay warm. I could live in the bathroom itself. Lol. Comfort gets a new definition. Attention to a travellers needs has been designed to the milimeter.
4 friends met after 40 years , we have all returned with heavy hearts as none wanted to leave. And we will go back again for certain.
The hosts chris and shefali treat you like gods. Personification of the indian tradition of " athithi devo bhava " . Never intrusive give you lots of space yet always there if you need them.
They are also very well connected to the authorities and the locals in the region so if youre guests of THTH , people in the village treat you kindly as well.
I can write a book on the place so instead of spoiling the experience i am going to stop here and say if you have not been here you would have missed something...

The rooms are not just comfortable but beautifully adorned with artwork crafted by the owner, Shefali. You will also see the beautiful pieces created by Shefali all over the property. The soothing sound of the river and breathtaking views from every room add to the charm.
Now, let's talk about the food—it's simply divine! The trout fish platters, especially the rawa trout, are a must-try. With a diverse menu, every dish is expertly prepared. During summers, their pizza oven churns out some of the best pizzas I've ever had, complemented by refreshing summer salads.
But the highlight of the trip? The evenings at the gazebo. Gathered around the fireplace, Christopher entertains with captivating tales and some amazing music. If he is in the mood, he will play the guitar 🎸 for you!!
Shefali and Christopher’s commitment to inclusion is commendable, with Vikram, a hearing-impaired employee, being an integral part of the team. Shefali and Christopher's efforts in creating a language of signs for communication speak volumes about their dedication. It's heartening to see guests actively engaging with Vikram, making every interaction meaningful.
The Himalayan Trout House isn't just a place to stay—it's a community where everyone feels welcome and valued. And if you are lucky, Christopher will give you a THTH sticker to make your inclusion in this family formal. I got mine🙏🏻❤️❤️ Thank you Chris...
