Welcome Resort Pahalgam — Hotel in Jammu and Kashmir

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel on May 4th and 5th, 2024, 6 of us booked two rooms and I want to commend the exceptional service provided by the staff members: Bilal Ahmad Raina, Bilal Ahmad Palia, Youns, Irshad, Mushtaq, Rahil, Sohail, and Irfan. Additionally, Adil and Sonu, the bellboys, were very helpful.

The location of the hotel is opposite a river, although you can't see it from the rooms due to the trees blocking the view and the property being slightly elevated from the road level. Despite this, the views of the pine trees are stunning. The hotel is situated on a main road, which means there is traffic outside, but the noise does not intrude into the rooms. At night and throughout most of the day, especially from night until morning, the sound of the river flowing is continuous and therapeutic, almost like having a speaker by your bedside playing river sounds. If you find this sound disruptive, I recommend booking a rear-facing room, which offers views of the pine trees instead. Our room was river-facing, and we found the sound to be quite soothing.

The food at the hotel was fantastic, with a good variety and high quality in both the breakfast buffet and dinner, particularly the North Indian cuisine. The service was excellent. The room quality was very good, and there is a separate restaurant building on the property.

However, I did experience some issues with the air conditioning in the bedroom, as it was only blowing warm air. Although the weather wasn't very cold at night (around 7 degrees), I felt warm and could not get any cold air from the AC. The staff informed me that the AC only blows warm air, which might be uncomfortable for those who feel warm at night. Additionally, the curtains block out air flow from the windows, which could be problematic for those who need a completely dark room to sleep.

The pillows were another downside. Instead of the fluffy down pillows typically found in star hotels, they provided memory foam pillows, which gave me a headache. Despite these issues, the rooms were very clean with modern bathroom fittings.

Disastrous Stay at the Welcome Resort in Pahalgam

My family and I recently stayed at the Welcome Resort in Pahalgam for 2 days during our 6-day trip to Kashmir, and it single-handedly ruined the entire experience.

Food Poisoning Fiasco: The food served at the resort's restaurant was of shockingly poor quality, which unfortunately led to a disastrous outcome. Out of our group of 10 people, 6 of us ended up getting severe food poisoning after consuming the meals at the Welcome Resort. The resulting illness and discomfort completely derailed our vacation plans and left us feeling miserable for the duration of our stay.

Lack of Entertainment: In addition to the food catastrophe, the Welcome Resort also severely lacked any kind of entertainment or activities, especially for the children in our group. There was no designated play zone or recreational facilities, leaving us with nothing to do but languish in our cramped rooms. This made for an incredibly boring and tedious experience, further compounding the overall disappointment of our stay.

Unacceptably Small Rooms: The rooms at the Welcome Resort were shockingly small, to the point that even opening our luggage left us with barely any breathing room. For a group of 10 people, the accommodations were entirely inadequate and made for an exceptionally uncomfortable stay. This, combined with the other issues, made the 2 days we spent at the resort feel like an eternity.

Overall, our experience at the Welcome Resort in Pahalgam was a complete disaster that single-handedly ruined our entire 6-day trip to Kashmir. From the debilitating food poisoning to the utter lack of amenities and cramped living quarters, every aspect of our stay was deeply disappointing. I would strongly urge anyone considering a visit to Pahalgam to steer clear of this resort at all costs, as it is simply not worth the utter misery it is likely to inflict...
