First of all this place is not called birds valley anymore. It is called summit indriya. The new management had done some drastic changes in the overall look and feel of this resort. This is located in a small village ( Kunjithanni ) which is about 18 kms ( takes about an hour by bus ) from Munnar town. It is about another 3 kms from the Kunjithanni bus stop to this restaurant. So you need to have a car with you or need to befriend one of the auto rickshaw guys from the village like I did. Most of the Resort staff are mostly clueless about arranging any kind of transportation facilities so don't depend on them . This resort is still known as Bird's Valley resort to the locals. So you are better off using that name while asking for directions to this resort. The place itself is well maintained and have great views. They have a swimming pool ,which I found to be a bit dirty for my liking. Their gym and game room is a small shed off to one side which looks more like someone's home gym. Rooms are clean and comfortable. House keeping staff is courteous and efficient . My main gripe about this Resort is their restaurant. This restaurant located in Kerala which has such a vibrant food culture, don't have even a single kerala style food item on their menu. The only South Indian food they have on their menu is Dosa and idly which is available almost anywhere in India. I asked the room service team if they can make something kerala style and they said they are helpless. This being a remote place and having only North Indian food ( which I eat almost daily in Bangalore) was the biggest let down for me. I ended up having nothing from their restaurant, even refrained from visiting it .I found a small place in the Kunjithanni village center ( Shajiyettans lunch home) and had my food from there or munnar town. The property of this resort is covered in lush greenery They even have a small farm of sort, which they call the indriya forest. There are lots of birds to give you company. The cottage which we stayed in had two rooms, a common balcony, a common living room and a watch tower on top to soak in the great views ( though you should Bath yourself in some mosquito repellent before doing so ). I haven't seen anyone using the Spa there. Overall it was a below par experience for me. If you want to really experience kerala food and visit places near munnar then this is not a good place to stay But if you want to just relax and enjoy the solitude then this place...
Read moreWow..Just amazing a..what a place..what a resort..what a service ....limited but well tasty buffet food.. This place is really the best place to stay in munnar. Its situated around 6kms from hustle busstle of munnar city and cover a full mountain in 33 acres also known as Indirya jungle. This jungle covered from all sides no no worry of wild life, full of euclyptis plants, no mosquitos , no bugs... Fresh air without any dust. Best part,,so many birds in the property ,i have actually recorderd 30 mins audio just from my balocny and am listening it when i feel tense. You will be rejuvnated from soul . All of this made possible by Mr.Imtinungasang who helped us right from entering the resport ,our extended long stay , and till the time we left this property. We did not wanted to go away from this place..Such a beautiful place and lovely people in the reception Mr.Imti and in resturant Mr.Naresh, and other staff who helped us with our infant baby ,right from food to other daily ,small small things required in day to day life. The service is so prompt and curtiuos all this with a smile and grace. We just enjoyed Munnar because of our stay at Summit birds valley. You can feel the real beauty of nature just staying there. They have hardly few rooms in whole property just to maintain the peacefull environment. In each cottage room, they have arrangment of rooftop sitting where you can have a tea and enjoy the sunrise or sunset or midnight stars just lying down in middle of nature without any fear of any animal or bugs or mosquitos and they have special aroma trees in resort which spread nice fragrance in night just to make it more beautiful. You can ask for Golden Berry room which is the biggest in dimension and only room having bathtub. This golden berry is the presidential suit kind of villa which is such a big place you can easily fit 20+ people inside it..hahaha. :) . In this villa they also have wood firing chimney so if its too cold you can ask them for wood fire in the drawing room. Thank you Mr. Imti and team for making our vacation successful. They have a nice big swimming...

From the advertising photo shots we reviewed prior to our visit - we were very excited to arrive after our long journey as part of our annual vacation with our two small. children!
On first arrival the decor and setting looks positive! The maintenance and upkeep of the resort and rooms unfortunately leave a lot to be desired. This was obviously once a spectacular place; where there was much love and care when building.
A stunning location and setting; but a lot of investment would need spending to bring up-to Western tourism standards. Everything is old and tired, and in need of either renewing, modernising or fully refreshing. A lot of patching and covering over is obvious.
The bedrooms we stayed in and general game rooms have strong signs of damp and smell.
The room service as a service list is a magnificent read; but in reality not possible to gain anything from. “Sorry sir not possible!” Many reasons given. Time, not available, distance, buffets being served! We managed a lime soda is all from the long list.
Although advertising continental food - our children had to eat bread for two days as nothing else was achievable from the resort for anything outside the Indian courses available. With little English spoken reasons were a guess at best.
Impossible to get a taxi from this resort for a quick visit anywhere ! as the resort can only arrange full day tours with guides and seem unable to arrange any other taxi forms for short visits or journeys. Due to location they say taxi drivers want hiring out for a full day only! This meant we had two children one with stomach trouble unable to get out of the resort or able to eat anything but bland food other than bread!
Language was an issue - as little or not English spoken by the staff. The staff themselves in fairness were friendly and smiley.
We wouldn’t recommend this place to any of our...
